notes
Debra Farris' music shoots straight from the heart: a carefully crafted rhythmic, harmonic, feel-good blend of blues, funk, folk, rock and more!
Don't let this plain CD wrapper fool you! This CD is HOT!
Debra's music has a broad appeal, not just for her versatility in playing a multitude of styles - she sings universal themes. Debra's lyrics are inspired by her life experiences and carry messages of love and unity, while the music kicks ass!
Her voice has a mystical way of drawing you in. The best description we've heard yet is Bonnie Raitt meets K.D. Lang clothed as Melissa Ethridge.
She has also been described as a songwriter with the versatility of James Taylor, and Eva Cassidy, and people have told her that her voice sounds like Michelle Shocked.
But there is more. There is Debra's spark.
Debra crafts each song so that it is rhythmically and technically interesting, exciting and pleasing to the ear.
Debra would describe herself as a 'sound alchemist'. She is sensitive to the blending of notes and the spaces between notes. She is a performer that truly gives to the audience. There is something about Debra's songs that make you feel good.
It is obvious that Debra loves music and loves to perform. Whether she is playing solo, or with her band, she is present, alive, joyful, and intense. She connects with the crowd as if they were in her living room. She simply lights up on stage.
Notable at a Debra Farris concert is everyone having a good time whether they are dancing, tapping their toes, nodding heads or just smiling.
"This isn't just another tight club band; Debra Farris stands out as a singer-songwriter of extraordinary talent and originality. Her lyrics move people. Although these songs come out of her own experience, these are universal themes. Debra Farris is singing about my life, your life and how we all feel - Debra Farris is best known for her powerful, high-energy songs, but this versatile artist has a special gift delivering a sensitive and beautiful ballad such as 'The Way'". - Patricia Rushton, Harper, Mixolydian Music
"Maybe you have to have had a broken heart to really appreciate Debra's music. Her songs are not sad, but come from a deep place, even when they are light-hearted. Her songs are much more then just fun or easy listening for the ears. It is an experience of the heart...From hers to anybody else's open to the experience. I feel her music as much as I hear it, and it always makes me feel good ." - Paul Tefft
"Debra Farris is an extremely gifted alchemist, stirring blues, rock and soulful rhythms into magical compilations. Dynamic, uplifting and unforgettable, her music stirs up so many facets of human emotion. One to watch closely for certain." - Michelle Gysan - VP Marketing Director, Lightwave Systems.

Definately Funky and Bluesy ... Get out your dance shoes!
author: Rad SchreiberOf all the Debra Farris Albums, this is by far the most funky and get down blues, makes me want to dance. There are a lot of nice groves like Take the Trade and Unraveled. There is also a slight jazz feel to the CD, not in the wondery kind of way, but there are some nice solos, especially the trumpet solo in Rose Colored Glasses.
