Trio Piano Jazz, modern and eclectic

notes

Steeped in the jazz tradition of collective improvisation, this piano trio CD features Evans's unique compositions along with inspired covers of songs by Richard Rogers, Milton Nascimento and Thelonious Monk. The CD was recorded in the studio live-to-two-track with no overdubs or additional mixing to capture a pure accoustic sound. With Cecil McBee on bass and Matt Wilson on drums, Evans presents a creatively-swinging collaboration that engages the listener and shows its depth upon repeated playings.

  • This is beautiful music that soothes the soul!
    author: Debby Schlein

Falkner Evans is a gifted musician and it certainly shows on his "Climbing the Gates" CD. Not only do I listen to his beautiful music at home, but I also play the CD in my new "Knit Wits" knitting/yarn shop in Key West, FL. My customers love listening to the wonderful, relaxing jazz music as they're knitting and crocheting away!

  • This one will convert you
    author: B. N. Horowitz

If, like me, you've thought that piano jazz was not your thing, this CD will make you think again. Beauty, complexity, lilt and momentum, deliverd by Mr. Evans here, have won me over. I can't wait for his next effort.

  • Depth, complexity and beauty -- I'm hooked!
    author: Tigger Bruenn

This music swings and moves, and moves me. I look forward to more listening, as I'm sure discoveries will continue to unfold. It is complex and beautiful, great listening without being either boring or jarring -- and it has great depth and interest. I love this music, and feel sure it will accompany me through many days. Thank you, Mr. Evans.

  • really interesting and swinging - great improv
    author: L Huntington

Great eclectic compositions and a swinging rhythm section that sounds like this trio has been together for years. There is a warmth to the sound of this CD. The title tune is a knockout. A wondeful flow to Monk's Ask Me Now and the solo rendition of I'm Through with Love is haunting. All in all a must-listen.
