Exeter Blues Groove are duo playing deep blues with a sound forged from fat and fuzzy harmonica and swampy drum grooves.
They are based in the Southern Highlands of NSW AUSTRALIA
in a small village called Exeter. The band is fronted by singer song writer David O'Leary ,His musical beginings started in Melbourne where he was first drawn to the harmonica via Bob Dylan and Neil Young. He soon discovered the blues harp players of Chicago and the Mississippi Delta. The late great Little Walter became one of Daves biggest musical influences. Story teller guitarists as diverse as Robert Johnson and Leo Kottkee as well as the hypnotic stylings in the music of R.L.Burnside and Tony Joe White all add up to what forms a very earthy bedrock sound that is Exeter Blues Groove. In 2004 EBG released an impressive 16 track album titled "LET IT FLOW "it was recorded at Begger's lane studio in Bowral in a single beautiful winters day. Produced with the help of Shane Pacey lead singer of Australian blues band "The Bondi Cigars" and featuring Robbie Souter on drums who has had a long playing relationship with Australian legend the late great Slim Dusty as well as "the Dynamic Hypnotics".
The album has been recorded in the traditional old style of " one take " and Robbies drumming finness blends beautifully with Daves "get up and dance " guitar style expressing the unique sound that is Exeter Groove.
Dave O'Leary sings it like it is, laconic and straight to the point with an honesty that gets under your skin and rings true long after the band has gone home. You will like this album alot.

With great singing & fabulous sound, you'll really get into the beat of the Exeter Blues Groove. Every song is different, you won't get bored. Definitely not "same old same old" track after track. Great piece of roots music
author: Przemek Draheim, Polish Blues & Gospel radio host, www.blues.pl/These guys really know what the groove is all about. With interesting compositions and bluesy arrangements they have recorded a great piece of roots music.
Very likeable right from the first playing. Very solid production.
author: Glen BowkerDave’s band consists of drums featuring sticks and brushes pretty well equally throughout. Brushes for shuffle, sticks for rock and groove. Bass, guitar and blues harmonica. There is also a cameo performance by Little Walter via a clever little authorized sample. Track 1 starts with said brushes in a fine sounding Cajun shuffle that sets up the rest of the tracks nicely. Track 2 introduces the big slide sound and the rest of the material unfolds very smoothly from there. There is nothing too fast or too slow and every song says something interesting. There is a big change of pace in track 5, ‘Let it Flow’ which is a full on boogie and things change again when the groove factor is unleashed in ‘Drive’. This track features a great drums and bass sound. I have to say at this point Shane Pacey, who twiddled all the knobs during the recording process has done a great job of nailing Dave’s sound. It’s not overly bright and very clear and warm. A great studio sound with a live feel that almost makes me expect to hear a crowd applauding at the end of the rockier tracks. There are quite a few different moods and feels in this collection. Things get pretty laid back with ‘Wondering watching You’ and ‘No better than This’ and then grabs your attention when Dave’s plugs in the electric guitar for the bonus track but the overall feel is definitely blues groove with a capitol B. The album stands up really well and is great listening. I listen to my copy all the time in the workshop and hear something new every time.
I have to live with IT!
author: Nina O'LearyHe keeps playing it and we hear it at times on the local radio and it has got to the point where I go I know this sound and realise its him before I know it Im singing along. I go to the gigs and it still sounds great. And it is going to get better Take it from a long suffering wife this is a great album.Take it from the kids they are singing the tunes and dancing when we put the disc on.
Dynamic,hard-driving,authentic sounding blues.
author: Jon PollardThis is a dynamic,hard-driving,authentic sounding blues recording. A combination of soulful vocals, intense slide guitar and sharp harmonica playing creates an addictive sound, particularly on tracks such as Have a Little Faith and Drive;a little of John Hammond jnr meets The Backsliders.
Lightning strikes on this album
author: The KmanA great example of the Australian Blues.Lightning struck the pole when Shane Pacey pressed the record button on this bloke, Great songs, great playing and great drumming from Robbie Suitor...a groove master in his own right
A destinctive sound and style
author: Col Ray PriceThese guys have a destinctive sound that is an Australian blues signature. A blending of The Cruel Sea, Backsliders with a mix of R L Burnside. Blended together to make their own unique sound. A great act to catch live also. Great songs guys. Col Ray.
