    what a fun album. connie evingson does it with class and sophistication. thanks to connie's voice and style, nearly every song has made the transition to jazz very well. the lyrics are reborn, to become an entirely new entity.

    I came upon this CD by accident while I was looking for another artist. So - always being on the eternal search for new, eclectic and different music - I gave it a listen. I was so intriqued that I had to have it for my collection. I've let several of my friends listen to it and they all like it as well. Connie has great control of her voice and sings like an angel. This is a great CD to have in your jazz collection.

    Connie's latest offering "Let it Be Jazz" is one CD to add to your collection. Paired up with another gem of the twin cities jazz scene, Mary Louise Knutson, Connie takes us back with her renditions of some great classics. From the smooth flowing opening intro of "Blackbird" to such hits as "Can't Buy Me Love" & "From Me to You", Connie gives them new life with great arranging and her velvet smooth voice. The addition of an accordion to "When I'm 64" is refreshingly creative. And, "I will" is so tender you wish you could give it a hug! Connie adds a flute to "Good Day Sunshine" in order to create a flowing, light and happy remake. My favorite, "Got To Get You Into My Life" is so well arranged. With Sax, Flugelhorn and bone in perfect balace with Connie's voice it left my toes tapping. We are treated with a bonus track actually, another version of "When I'm 64". This time, a clarinet is used, adding a different feel from the earlier track. Overall, I am very pleased I purchased this CD. The arranging and creativity is fabulous. I know I will be listening to it for quite some time. Thanks Connie for turning these pop classics into jazz!

    Connie has accomplished the neat trick of making the Beatles songs work in an uncompromised jazz setting while still evoking the original versions. Doing one or the other would probably have been relatively easy--doing both at the same time is truly impressive. Someone else might have used the songs merely as a framework for a "blowing session." Or another someone else might have locked too much into the original versions and ended up with a CD of dumbed-down "smooth jazz" instead of real jazz. Connie has done neither. A lot of art has gone into these reworkings. And more than occasionally some wit. ("When I'm 64," for example [the “alt.” version], takes the clarinet part from the original record and integrates it into a kind of polka-klezmer hybrid feel that's as appropriate for the song as the "English music hall" feel was for the original.) And I really like her singing. And the very sound of her voice.
