Euricka Bio
Euricka was New Orleans' first female R&B/Hip-Hop solo artist to land strong on the industry map, but on August 29th, 2005 all of her hard work was abruptly halted.
Hurricane Katrina and all its devastation swept through New Orleans, trapping Euricka in her apartment. She only prayed that her life and her best friend Diva's (her pet dog) life be spared. Days of darkness went by before Euricka was even able to communicate with any of her family members to let them know that she was alright. Comforted with the fact that her family was fine, Euricka continued her fight for survival and rescue with courage and vigor! Wading through waste high waters of unforeseen dangers, Euricka 's determination was about to pay off. After being heart broken by a helicopter pilot, stating that his mission was not for rescue, but only to repair the levy, Euricka trudged on and was finally rescued by boat and reunited with the rest of her family in Houston, Texas.
Euricka now calls Houston/Texas, home and after much difficulty and emotional strain, the career that was once halted by the most devastating natural disaster in the history of this country is halted no more. However, Euricka and her fans can never forget how it all got started.
Growing up in the Calliope Housing Projects is a far cry from where Euricka is now, having five siblings, a single mother and an ordained minister grandmother, kept an interesting balance in her life. As a young girl singing in the church, Euricka always had a love for music and performance, "I always wanted to entertain and make people happy." she says, and although she was raised by a firm hand, she was also raised to be strong. Her patchy background has given her an even more special talent, which allows her to "appreciate people's lives and where they come from." One of her most influential musical models goes by the name of none other than Tina Turner. "I love her music, but I really love her more as a person. I appreciate how she lived and how she kept it real."
Euricka 's stage presence and overall performance skills will definitely be a key to her longevity. Euricka has performed internationally and commanded the stage at some of the hottest music venues around. Performing annually at the Essence Music Festival and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival has earned her the title "Princess of R&B" by many enthused fans. Most recently in support for our troops headed to Iraq, Euricka 's farewell performance in Forthood/Texas left the crowd in cheers. Her performance of the National Anthem at one of the Saints Home Games on NFL Sunday also showcased her great talent.
Euricka shot the video for her debut single "Crunk" (the remix is on“THE TAKEOVER” CD), right in the Calliope Housing Projects. Returning to the neighborhood that gave birth to and nurtured her dreams has been one of the most exciting and inspirational events for her. "It was going home that moved me the most," the singer said, recalling how just a few short years ago, as a teen, she peered from the window in her family's apartment and fantasized about being a super-talented performer. "It brought me to tears to know that this was the place where my dreams had started."
Certainly, this Southern girl is excited about every good fortune that hard work has created for her burgeoning music career. Her first song and video was released in 2005, along with heavy rotation on radio stations and music video shows around the country.
With her talent, moves and stature that's "a girl in stilettos comin' out the ghetto – walking like a model -- shaped like a bottle". There are many pleasant surprises in store for Euricka and her growing fan base. Recognizing that her fans represent a cross section of tastes, the musical flavor Euricka offers is much like a good pot of Gumbo combining a little bit of R&B, soul, hip-hop and pop-well blended and balanced for a style that is uniquely her own. When she was my student at Dillard University I encouraged her as both a visual artist (painter) and a vocalist. I am pleased to see her doing well but I am not surprised.

I've heard Patti Labelle sing and thought I'd never hear no one come close to even touching her but I have to say I think Euricka has created a new sound within the remake she did of Patti's and I am in love with her voice!
