    As with other people hearing 'Nara' the theme to cold case, researching and finding this cd was how i came accross the wonderful music of ES Posthumous. All i can say is that for anyone thinking about buying 'Unearthed'.... Do it...and Do it NOW.The music is like nothing you have heard before. Imagine a combination of Enya,Mike Oldfield, Vangellis and topped off with composer David Foster(Celine Dion/Andrea Bocceli)and it will give you some idea. As you listen to these beautiful tracks it takes you to Egypt,Peru,Ireland and reminds you of soundtracks to films like The Mission and Gladiator. If i was a film producer i would look no further than these two fabulous brothers.

    I've had this album since 2004, and am remiss that I have not sumbitted a review until now. I cannot add to what has been said. I've listened to this when I've been in despair and joy. It has countoured my tastes, influenced my own music, and found its place as my favorite album. The last track is so moving, I often listen to it twice, especially starting at 2:41, which is just breathtaking.

    All the songs on this album are good, but I particularly like Nineveh, Menouthis, and Pompeii. These songs are not just notes on a page, they are foot-tapping, exciting works that tell a great, musical story. The rest of the tracks are also wonderful.     While surfing on cdbaby I listend to Track 1 and was surprised how it touched me, how this gave me the creeps...than I ordered the cd. I was not interested in the other songs, I only want "Antissa", "Antissa" in the morning while awaking, "Antissa" in the evening to chill out, "Antissa" while driving my car. Now I driven a lot and listend the whole album. What a surprise. This contrasts. Track 4 "Ulaid" for example. It begins in Ireland, fly to Indian (Bollywood) and it ends at a piano where ever on the world. I like this album and I am exciting listen to more of them...

    A friend gave me the head's up on this album, I came straight to CD Baby and listened to all the Unearthed songs. I fell in love with it instantly. Nara was also used to accompany the previews of the film "The Other Boleyn Girl" I haven't seen the film but I hope Nara is used for the soundtrack, it will make it all the better for watching. For anyone who has enjoyed Mike Oldfield give this a try, you won't be sorry. Fabulous.

    Like a lot of people I came across this album via Nara on Cold Case (it's still my favourite track). It is the most unbelievable awe-inspiring music I have ever heard and I never tire of listening to the whole album. It will get your heart racing with tracks like Menouthis and Pompei which are both monumental pieces of music with the most amazing orchestration.Chill out to the beautifully crafted Estemos and Nara, which leave you uplifted.     After listening to the remarkable starting them for "Cold Case", I decided that I had to find out what the music was. This lead me to discover Nara, along with the rest of this CD. The music is pure genius and simply brilliant. There is much diversity in the musical arrangments and different styles are blended in such a craftful manner. The orchestral parts are an extreme pleasure to listen to, whilst the heavier tracks have wonderful driving beats. It's in a class of its own and well worth every cent.

    So new and original, and yet so familiar and acceptable to nearly every ear. While comparable to other well known names, such as Era, Enigma, and Paul Schwartz, it is at the same time entirely different and in a class of its own. The excellent work consists of live classical instruments and choirs, with a perfect sprinkle of ethnic instruments. Percussion is incredible, with lots of exotic drums and ethnic rhythmic instruments being used to create the most powerful percussive arrangements that will convince any metalhead that classical is neither weak nor boring. Electronic sounds and effects are used cleverly and conservatively, only to spice up and underline the gorgeous melodies and harmonies. This sparing use of electronic sound will allow this album to be a timeless wonder, instead of a quick "hip-hit" today, and kitch tomorrow, as is the case with many of the aforementioned works. Overall this album spans the globe in its masterful use of musical enthnicity as a charming accent to the universal language of classical ensemble. There is an ocean of emotion in this album, and it will take a listener many times through to try and grasp them all. You will not be disappointed, I'm sure!

    When I first heard "Nara" I immediately loved it. I didn't know which song was and who played it. I heard it again while seeing main title of "Cold Case". I made some research and find out the authors and the title. I listened some samples on internet and I found them incredible. I bought the cd a week later.     This album is good for days you don't know what to listen to, and very good for when you're engaged in a creative process as writing. I'm sad to say I thought there was too much emphasis on the classical openings and it didn't always mix well with the electronica sound. Maybe sometime with too much electronic stuff, but it's the concept that leads the album : to unite opposite of classical and even religious structure with modern arrangement.     Having purchased the Epicon album by Globus last year I was encouraged to try similar albums by other artists who were new to me. As someone who had been saying for some time that the Cold Case theme tune should be turned into a full length track (how stupid do I feel now!) I was delighted to find that it was available on the E.S. Posthumus album. On receiving the album I wasn't disappointed. The melodies and arrangements stay with you long after the album has finished, and the mix of styles is enough to provide a song for every mood, whether you need to be uplifted, calmed or simply have a good rousing tune to which you can work. If a second album is released I'll be among the first to buy it. Until then I'll simply recommend this album to all my friends. Buy it, you won't be disppointed.

    Unearthed is one of the best albums I've purchased all year. It merges the powerful emotional elements of classical music with the more rythmic easy listening of modern pop/rock. It is a wonderful album for the imaginative mind, a motion picture soundtrack the listener can dream the movie for.     This is an album that can be played no matter what mood you find yourself in - there is a track that can be played to any emotion. The music, in general, is filled with drama that suits trailer theme music. Due to the atmosphere that the songs create, they are excellent stand-alones that add to any visual input they are coupled with. Already, several of the songs have been sampled for promotional purposes and should continue to haunt listeners well past the trailers end.

    Unearthed by ES Posthumus is quite an innovative project. Filled with wonderful blends of choral, orchestral, contemporary, and electronica, Unearthed delivers a spectacular listening experience. Rarely do I find a CD on which I enjoy all the tracks - this one is one of those exceptions. My favorite tracks are Pompeii, Ebla, Isfarhan, and Nara but I find myself letting the CD run on loop for a couple hours at a stretch. I'm looking forward to ES Posthumus' next project. -WM

    My wife watches Cold Case every week and every week says this music is beautiful. So with the aid of the internet, I tracked it down, and ordered it for her as a surprise [CD Baby - superb service may I say]. The purchase was simply so she could add Nara to her Ipod selections.I was at home when the CD arrived, she was at work. So I put it on and had listen whilst I was working -didn't want to give it to her when she came home ! The CD is incredible. Each track seems to bring out a different emotion - emotive, haunting,sad,stirring, the whole range is there. I could quite easily imagine every track being used in a film/TV scene. Absolutely beautiful album, we listen to it at home whilst working or in the car whilst driving. Superb.

    I was browsing the CD collection on this site to find something interesting and stumbled upon this. I usually listen to all sorts of music but when I entered their site, I turned off everything and had their album play over and over (which is a first). Although some of the tracks are different in tempo and sound, all songs convey a sense of "etherealness". A brilliant fusion of classic music with modern electronics. I couldn't take the CD out of my car stereo for weeks. Nara (track 6), which I later found out is the theme song of a series called Cold Case is my favourite but all other songs are breath taking. So, if you love music as much as I do, you are in for a very pleasant surprise with this CD.

    As a classically trained violinist I love the use of REAL strings and the blend of both "classical" and contemporary melodies and harmonies. By adding a percussive kick to the music, E.S Posthumus' "Unearthed" is the perfect way for me to unwind or pump up depending on the song.     Brothers Helmut and Franz Vonlichten from Los Angles composed their self financed C.D. of cinematic music, entitled Unearthed, using the concept of a soundtrack without a movie. They mysteriously call themselves E.S. Posthumus, E.S. stands for "Experimental Sounds" while "Posthumus" represents "all things past". Their music is inspired by the Pythagorean philosophy which states that "music is the harmonization of opposites; the conciliation of warring elements." E.S. Posthumus blend classical, electronica, world music and hard beats into a sound that should appeal to fans of Deep Forest, Vangelis, Enigma even Enya. The 13 tracks all named after ancient or long-standing cities have been used by nearly every major film studio in movies such as The Matrix Reloaded, Planet Of The Apes, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Lord Of The Rings, Spiderman 2, Ali and Minority Report. Unearthed covers the spectrum of emotions from dark and coral with a Latin/Gregorian feel to sunshine filled South American, Middle Eastern and Irish moods.     Are you the kind of person who can tell when a movie is about to manipulate your emotions? When the music is about to swell, the close-up on the dying child's face is about to pan out, the camera is about to swoop across a skyline, desert or beach? If so, you'll just love this CD. It's like a collected soundtrack to all those moments in all those movies, and you know what? That's not all bad. It's actually a really fun listen. But don't expect too much depth: it's the soundtrack to a summer blockbuster, the one with the explosions and the hero and getting/losing/saving of the girl. It's the movie where the TV preview starts with the gravelly voice saying "In a world where..." or "In a time when..." That's still a fun movie, though, if you have the popcorn and the soda and the jujubes.

    I had noticed the theme for "Cold Case," but first heard the entire CD when a friend brought it along to Medieval Swordplay Class. As a writer who works to music, I am always on the lookout for music that hits, grabs, or even tackles me and Unearthed by E.S. Posthumus did all of that. It took my breath away. My friend told me where and how to get it and I took action right away. I needed to have that music in my possession, and "need" is the operative word. This is great stuff for both floating away with image after image in the mind's eye, or for having entire movies flash across that internal screen. Open yourself up for this one -if not, prepare to have the doors to your inner world battered open.

It is with much delight that I now see its movement into mainstream distribution where it can be appreciated by a larger audience due to its commercial usage. With thirteen tracks it provides an eclectic collection of atmospheric and ethereal compositions. With ambient rhythms, Unearthed is a crucible of classical, electronica reminiscent dramatic score work, and breathtaking choir work. It maybe all too easy to identify in the world music genre or New Age, but for me the work defies these categories since it evokes something human deep within. Personally Unearthed catapults me as a listener on a vertical journey to from contemplation to passion and a variety of other human heights and depths. Amongst the many images conjured, horizontally, depending on the track, I imagine myself gliding on horseback with trees whizzing by in the early mist of dawn and other times I imagine myself clawing to overcome the mountainous and treacherous terrains in a blitz of hail and lightening. This is a very evocative musical composition that seriously affects the consciousness and fuels the imagination—conceiving this musical work as a soundtrack to the soul may not be entirely wrong. As the titles to the tracks indicate this CD is a journey of an ancient world, and each track attempts to reflect some of the traditional flavor expressed by that classical civilization and its history. From Anitssa to Isfahan the music is the vehicle by which you will travel with E.S. Posthumus at the helm. And just as these ancient civilizations will be unearthed something deeply traditional and primordial will be evoked too to be unearthed—perhaps something inspiring, akin to the front cover which is a painting of St. Matthew’s Inspiration by Caravaggio, in our disenchanted and alienated world.

    Ummm ... I ordered this CD about a week ago, and already I'm in LOVE with it. With most CDs I buy, I need to listen to the album a few times to get to know the songs and to start getting into it, but with this CD, I fell in love with it straight away. I can't really describe what it is about it that makes it so cool, it just is! Maybe its just cos of the fact that I've never heard anything like it before?!     I really enjoy this CD. I listen to many musical genres and appreciate instrumental music, but am not a devoted fan of classical music. This music is produced using traditionally classical music instruments, but with a tempo that is uplifting and deep. My exposure to this piece was through Cold Case, and once I heard that theme song I had to have it. The good news is that most of the CD is similarly stimulating. I would highly recommend this CD to a person who appreciates good music composition and performance and does not get hung-up on labels.

    Terrific music, well recorded - clean sound, nice imaging. It took me about one year to identify 'Nara' as the powerful music in the preview of Antwone Fisher, HBO's coming attractions, and finally 'The Clearing'. The rest of the tracks are also outstanding. Dramatic, stirring music reminiscent of Respighi , Vaughan Williams, and even Deep Forest - it's hard to pin down, but well worth checking out.

    when i heard the "cold case" music i KNEW i had to find out about this ...im so glad i did!! not only is NARAS so much more than the clip on TV - the CD is filled with incredible, moving, uplifting, clean & powerful music - i made the store i work for play it and even the customers dug it - and they usually like britney (ugh) - so this should be a must have for anyone who loves music -it will put you in a great mood -

    Really a great CD. Like film music, only better, because it doesn't depend on the action in the movie. Since I've got it, I listen to it almost every day and it never gets boring. It's a pitty that this is the only CD of E.S.Posthumus at this time.

    I also sought out this CD due to the song "Nara." While it is still my favorite song on the CD, the entire CD is very strong. As has been mentioned already, it's very dramatic music, full of mystery, romance, and drama. I find Nara incredibly erotic. It has that romantic, ethereal quality along with the powerful surges that go right to my very core. It gives me goosebumps every time. These are very talented musicians. The CD is very, very different.... orchestral and classical, yet very dramatic and almost new age, but not in a cheesy way. I would be very interested in hearing more from E.S. Posthumus.

    Haunting, beautiful, soulful music. I have never heard anything like it, and I've been listening to music for a LONG time. Everyone who likes this music needs to tell their friends and encourage the purchase of the CD as widely as possible; this is an extremely talented act that we NEED to hear more from; their talent needs to be rewarded with cold hard $$$. I am serious; that is something I do not say about a lot of artists. The track Lepcis Magna was so good I almost cried. I was raised on classical music, developed a taste for pop, rock, alt rock, classic rock, jazz, reggae, house, trance, world, rap, and almost everything in between. Everyone who I have recommended this music too has liked it REGARDLESS of their previous musical tastes. This is truly genre-crossing music that speaks to the soul. If you like music, even a little bit, you owe it to yourself to buy this album.

    This CD is one of those where I am able to listen to the whole album, not just a one song CD. I really enjoy the blending of synth work with choral and string arrangements. I'm definitly interested in how E.S. Posthumus' music will progress in the future. Once again, good stuff!

    People don't realize it but this music is used everywhere. Pompeii and Nara appear in movies and movie trailers as often as any other track. Music is extremely well composed. It is classical but very interesting and dramatic at the same time.

    ES Posthumus music on this CD was widely known for the use in deiverse Movie Trailers like Spiderman, Planet Of The Apes and Affair of the Necklace. But when I finally got the CD I found out that ES Posthumus works where Rob Dougan has left in Matrix and/or Matrix Relaoded. A great example of comtemporary music: Dynamic, eclectic and harmonic. A treat for everyone who like "visual" music.

    "Unearthed" is a collection of musical poems. The sounds are equisite, ranging from intense and dynamic to calm and serene. Especially liked "Nara" (soundtrack from "Cold Case Files") and Cuzco (resolves to tension, very uplifting). There is a certain perfectionism the arrangements. Each song stands on its own. The Italian Renaissance (?) painting of St. Matthew and the Angel epitomizes the tension and beauty in the songs. What a treat!

    Ordered this CD and got it in 2 days. The music sounds like a soundtrack. There isnt much vocals on the CD, but the music is good enough without them. My favorites on this ablum are Elba and Nara. You should definately check this CD out. Some tracks are very calming while others are very intense. Some tracks also have a techno sound in them. It all blends very nicely together. Great job!

    This is the third purchase of this CD. Both of my daughters heard it at my house and had to have it. As a matter of fact, one of my daughters is a Capt in the Army. She leaves for Iraq next week and is taking this CD with her because she loves it. I first heard a song from this CD on the "Cold Case" show. I loved it so much I searched the Web until I found it. I don't know what else to say except the music on this CD, "sends me!"

    When listening to this CD it sends me to another place far away. If you close your eyes you can be flying by a mountain or over an ocean. Note: Not a good idea to close your eyes while driving. But fun to listen to while driving. My friends and I agree that the more you listen the more you notice how much creative energy went in to composing the songs. Each with there own feeling that either lifts you to the heavens or sends you thundering through the valleys as you fly along at top speed. Great to listen to while wife is shopping and you're needing to relax after a hard day working.

    I purchased this CD after hearing Pompeii in a flash video. The CD is overall quite awesome. It's songs are a nice mix of both instrumental and vocal classical and electronica, and it sounds awesome.

    Very dramatic, creative but sadly,it borders on corny now and then. Great ideas, wish they leaned away from common time once in awhile. There will be many more uses in hollywood for this sweeping collection than what we've heard thusfar but with a little more guts this group of musicians could avoid that banality altogether.

    There were always a few movie trailers out there that I saved just because the music was so good, I finally went out and researched a bunch of them and found out many were on this very CD, what luck! I ordered it up and was not disappointed. Not only familiar favorites like Nara, Harappa, and Pompeii, but new stuff I don't know how I lived with myself never hearing before (Antissa, wow). This puts so many imitators to shame, you owe it to yourself to experience this CD!

    I like this CD for background music. The music has a lot of atmosphere, but it isn't terribly deep. That means that your interest in this CD will "self-destruct" after about five listens. Nevertheless, that will give you your money's worth.

I first herd on of their songs in the Vanity Fair trailer and i searchd for over two hours for it witch led me to Cdbaby.com. i bought the cd without thinking about it and i love it.
