Memorable, midtempo acoustic songs with heartfelt, soothing vocals floating over layers of slide guitar, strings, synth burbles, and live and electronic grooves.

notes
Erik Penny is quickly emerging as one of LA's most promising singer-songwriters. With his recent inclusion on the debut release from the hugely influential Hotel Café in Hollywood, "Live at the Hotel Café, Vol. One", side by side with his better-known contemporaries Gary Jules, Ian Ball of Gomez, Alexi Murdoch, Tracy Bonham, Jim Bianco, and Joe Purdy, he is helping to shape the next wave of music flowing out of Los Angeles. His recently completed "Summer Stars EP" showcases not only his strong songwriting and sincere lyrics, but also his unique take on producing and arranging. Lightly strummed acoustic guitar meets 808 snare hits, trumpet and flugelhorn interweave with slide guitar, string sections, and synthesizer burbles, and Erik's voice whispers warmly above it all. A childhood shared between New York and the border town of El Paso followed by 8 years in LA have inspired midtempo, introspective music that conjures images of the city melting into the desert melting into the sea melting into the sky; love lost and found, and the beauty of it all.

extraordinarily rewarding
author: mijitmani'm proud to say i've followed erik penny's musical stylings since the "bidding war demo" days; each iteration of his soundscapes contain a wealth of melodies to explore and revel in. this latest outing has him reminding me of david sylvian, with well-produced sonic backdrops highlighting his ever more robust vocals. make sure to check out the classic "extraordinary", a track so richly deserving of the spotlight!
