Eric Daniel and Friends Release new CD "Old Sax Nu Soul"

After 30 years of playing sax and flute all over the world with top artists such as Natalie Cole, Paul Young, Zucchero "Sugar" Fornaciari, Carl Anderson, Randy Crawford and many others, saxman Eric Daniel, together with DJ/producer Luca Cucchetti and an All-Star line-up of "Friends", is droppin’ some very cool, very sexy nu soul grooves in his first solo album: "Eric Daniel and Friends, Old Sax Nu Soul".
And it’s about time!
It all started two years ago, at least the first session happened back then.(It seems like only yesterday...)
In truth how can you say exactly when a project starts. All the people involved move through their lives, meeting each other, becoming friends and evolving individually until something happens that brings them all together, a catalyst, this project. The mixture was right, a spark flashed and BOOM, you tell me. Just Nature’s way I guess!
Each of the 16 tracks is a journey in itself, yet the best way to listen to it is as a kind of Urban R&B/Nu Soul suite that progressively pulls you “…deeper than deep, down to the place where the soul folk’s meet”, as Nigerian master story teller, Dr.Feelx so aptly describes the vibe in his intro to the title track “Old Sax, Nu Soul”.
Soulful, soulful, soulful is what oh so fine and Divine Jenny B is about on the title track’s lead vocal, not to mention veteran Orlando Johnson’s soul and gospel inspired backing vocals. New York bass man Tim Fritz keeps everything in the pocket as always. Of course Eric is there too, in the role of “Old Saxman” in the story.
“The Ghetto”, a true urban soul odyssey into a free blowing soundscape , is getting strong response from local radio airplay in the Eternal City.
It’s been previewing in exclusive at Rome's leading Urban Black Music station (Radio Centro Suono, 101.3fm). The anticipation is building day by day...the question on everyone's lips is "where can I buy it?"

author: Thanks Bob! Eric..."Sometimes the title of an album can tell you everything that you can expect from what's actually inside of it when you listen to it. This album has been one of my "secret pleasures" for about the past six months and I suppose that it's about time to let you all in on one of my "secrets". It's really an album of (mostly) instrumental Neo Soul, by that I mean an updated version of what used to be called "soul jazz". However unlike many Neo Soul artists these cats can really play and can hang with real jazz musicians. For you "old headz" it's got kinda like a Lonnie Liston Smith type of vibe. For you "new headz" once you listen to this album, you will quickly understand exactly why much of what is categorized as "neo soul" is a fraud. "Old Sax Nu Soul" is erotic in the a way that when you close your eyes you think that you are resting on a magic carpet that is floating three inches off of the ground at the foot of one of the pyramids. "Old Sax Nu Soul" is 16 tracks of super erotic/stank nasty music that if the Neo Soul crowd were to actually listen to it, this album would turn their insides completely out and force them to realize that "elevator music" is NOT erotic, nor is it passionate. The vocals are somewhat muted, but are quite effective. This album is a great example of the "future" part of the phrase "great black music from the ancient to the future"! And that's why it's playing in rotation on the NuSoul @ RadioIO. In fact if Eric wants to tell people that I named the channel after his album (I won't argue with him)." The saxophone notes will make the listener feel the light atmosphere of enchantment one can feel during an after midnight party. ....... "Wanna See You Dance" is built on a sweet, slow groove combined with some flute sounds and soft female vocals. Sensual saxophone notes spice up the atmosphere while you can hear a trumpet cry in the background. ....... Rhythmic drum beats, cut saxophone notes celebrate a joyful ambiance...... Guitar, piano and keyboard sounds add to the festive atmosphere. ......... "Da Loot" is built on much more nostalgic sounds and vocals. The repetitive chorus pictures an insisting demand. The saxophone enhances this constant quest. Hammering xylophone notes seem to suggest ....... "The Ghetto" is introduced by some distorted saxo sounds mixed up with guitar notes. Step deep in the ghetto, let the music take you there and the saxophone drop some hopeful notes. Rapid drum beats and electric guitar sounds strongly suggest a colorful universe that will open your ears and eyes. The ghetto is full of life and a source of inspiration for the artist. Nicely done. ......... "Jesus Said "is full of blues accents. Enter into a spiritual atmosphere made of faith and prayers. The instrumentals perfectly match with the raw voices and beautifully draw a « please let it happen » prayer ascending to Heaven. ......... "Deeper" introduces the listener into a rhythmic African tale. The heartbeats-like drums play a determinant role. Let the spirit of the never ending music live on...... Take a deep walk and enter into the sensual "OldSaxNuSoul" ballad. Feel the beautiful gospel atmosphere of the song. Let me point out the great performance of the female vocalists who know how to touch your soul...... Enjoy the cadence. Close your eyes and let the music talk to your soul. ...... "Ooh Baby" is a love song that praises a lover's soft body. Soft saxophone and flute sounds fulfill the song with sensuality and love feelings. ...... Back to nostalgia with "Walking On Moonlight". Deep saxophone sounds are married with rhythmic drum beats. ..... "Art Of Sax" fully enlightens Eric Daniel's great mastery of his instrument. ..... "Minimal" is a composition made of catchy beats and dynamic saxophone sounds. This is Eric, playing over and over again for his listeners' pleasure. The swinging track probably won't leave you indifferent. Follow Eric Daniel in his instrumental ride and enjoy. ..... Not only is "Gotham City" instrumentally well worked on, it also enlightens Eric's narrative talent...... "Jazz Rhythm" is a beautiful song with a little bit of jazz-soul- blues and hip hop accents. It is characterized by some joyful saxophone accents, great rhythmic vocal performances, swinging beats, mad scratches. In short, the song will make black music lovers feel allright. A must hear, listeners!..... Globally, the 16 track CD is very well worked on. The American born master interpreter Eric Daniel allows his listeners to step into a sophisticated universe that is so rich of many influences. A pinch of soul, blues, negro spirituals, a little bit of Motown flavor, hip hop, well mastered instrumentals and vocals make that CD highly enjoyable to the listeners. .....
