Equal Time is a creative improvisational group that draws heavily on the traditions of jazz and blues while always looking to the future of improvised music. In this live recording from May 2007, Thom Keith (saxophone), Derek Kwong (trombone), Mike Walsh (drums), and Tim Webb (bass), engage the audience in a true celebration of music...a discovery process that is exhilarating. The music on Regeneration X runs the gamut from freewheeling collective improvisation to funky grooves. And all of it was composed on the spot with the exception of Thom Keith's composition "Yrrehs Mas."

Tim, Thom, and Mike, as a trio, worked with trombonist Dick Griffin (Now Is The Time, A Dream for Rahsaan) and trumpeter Eddie Gale (Ghetto Music, Black Rhythm Happening), and band members have worked with Charlie Kohlhase, Matt Langley, Curtis Clark, Analog Method, Sam Rivers, and the Bjorkestra.

    I'm with Mr Allards review........This album really cooks. Technical ability is there.....I love their ability to communicate they way they do. Track 2 @ 10:40, who's torturing Thom?......Now that's getting into the music! Keep the music comin' guys!

  • An Awesome Album

    "Regeneration X" is an incredibly eclectic set performed live by Equal Time. The great musical chemistry found amongst Thom, Derek, Mike, and Tim is effortlessly heard on every track. It makes for an undoubtedly interesting and unique sound that can only achieved by these musicians. This is also one of their most emotion filled performances. Thom just screams on his horn while Derek pounds on the bone with a certain tasteful, chaotic control. And then there's mike. He is nothing short of a god of thunder. His technical abilities on the drums are simply bewildering, but not overwhelming. He is great at feeling out the song's mood in its own environment. Tim Webb also gives an A list performance. He has a certain lankiness that melds with his technical abilities flawlessly. This album is a great example of avant-garde improvisational jazz at its best. It's worth every penny.
