Jack Johnson/Brushfire Fairytales Original Press Release....

Jack Johnson was born on the North Shore of Oahu where he grew up like any local kid; surfing the Pipeline. By 14 he was competing in the Masters tournament as one of the top surfers in the world. It was his near fatal wipe out on one of these monster waves that immortalized him and his battered face became an indelible image in the surfing world.

While recovering, he pursued his interest in filmmaking and soon became a surf film director, photographer, producer and score composer. His most recent film "The September Sessions" won The Surfer Magazine Poll award for best film of the year.

One day G. Love was introduced to Jack for a day of surfing and ended up recording Jack's song "Rodeo Clowns" for his last album Philadelphonic. It became the first single from the album and Jack sang and played on the track.

JP Plunier produced Brushfire Fairytales. He has produced all of Ben Harper's albums. Harper played on Brushfire Fairytales as well as Tommy Jordan from Geggy Tah and Merlo from Spain. Adam Topol played drums. The album was recorded in Los Angeles in the summer of 2000 at Grandmaster Recorders and mixed at King Sound.

    What is so important in this world is for people to understand the different between need and want. To be not only content with what you have, but to be inspired by it. It is looking at what you've always seen and suddenly seeing more. It is wanting what you've got. The beauty of innocence in nature and humans compells those that will allow it. Some people need high ticket, instant gratification fun. I get the sense that Jack is one of the lucky ones who might revel in the idea of sitting around a fire with a few treasured friends and and instrument or two. I know the un-nameable beauty that is this. One string to pluck, two lips to whisper old favourites, and three or four friends to make the best kind of memories.

    An excellent Cd. Mellow and beautiful songs. I've loved this guy from the start. This is a must have for the soul surfer type and it's up there with the Tiki Brothers and the Shadows. He's brilliant just like his pal Ben Harper. Highly recommended. An easy 5 stars.

    I bought this CD after only hearing, "Flake," and "Bubble Toes," on the radio. At first I was a little disappointed because this album is mostly very slow-paced, and I was expecting more upbeat songs like the two radio hits. But after a couple more listens I realized, this is one of the best CD's of the last couple years. The songs range from slow, dramatic songs like, "The News," to catchy upbeat songs like, "Don't Drink The Water," and "Bubble Toes." My only complaint on the CD is the song, "Mudfootball," the lyrics just are shallow and kind of kiddie. But overall this is an excellent album worth the buy. Check out the song, "Inaudbile Melodies," my personal favorite.

    Brushfire Fairytales causes chronic headbobbing. I love Ben Harper but I don't believe their sounds are paralelled as everyone told me before I heard it. The precussion is a similarity but his bassline is very strong and jazzy. I can tell Jack has listened to a lot of music. He's listened to Mowtown, Bob Marley, James Taylor, Sublime, of course Ben. All of his influences have given him a distinctive style never to be mistaken for any other.

    As good as the great Cat Stevens and thats saying alot. "F-Stop Blues" is a song like no other i have ever heard and "The News" is sure to be a classic. I have been around music a long time and i can personaly tell you that this is one of the greatest records i have ever graced and thats no bull. I'd never been to CD Baby before so I decided to poke around and see what other artist's sites looked like, and then I saw Jack Johnson's. I just had to take the time to write and say how much I love this CD. I picked it up on a whim, at a Borders in Palm Springs, a few weeks ago, because I love to give new artists a chance. At first it seemed sweet but simple, but then by the second play I realized how wrong I was, and had become addicted to some of the songs, particularly Bubble Toes. I love that song so much I replayed it enough to memorize the speedy complicated lyrics. Now my son, whose twelve, and I, blast this CD, whenever we're driving around town. I can't say enough good things about it. Two days after buying it I went back and bought two more for friends. It's that good!

    This album blows your mind. Sometimes it takes several listens for an album to grow on you...well Brushfire Fairytales is not one of those albums. One listen and you're hooked. In this day and age of downloading free music, Jack Johnson's album is one that must be bought (no I don't work for him or his label). My only complaint: Jack, please play more Canadian shows!

    everyone's been saying how great the CD is.. and it's true! whenever i purchase a CD i only like a few songs; but amazingly, i love ALL the songs on Brushfire Fairytales! my friends are all surprised b/c they know how picky i am. When i let them listen to the songs, they immediately fell in love with his songs and the tone of his voice. Every song is calm and almost acoustic, but whenever i need an upbeat song, i turn to Mudfootball. That song makes me happy everytime i listen to it! JACK ROX!

    This CD is a wonderful collection of songs that set the chill mood with some bodies while having a good time. Middle Man, Flake, Inaudible Melodies, Bad News are my personal favrites but the whole album is good. You ca listen to the whole CD without even skipping songs becuase there are no bad tunes. I would highly recomend it to anyone that enjoys some killer acoustic music that flows with the 4:20 :) If he is in town near you, see him you wont be disapointed.

Due to an unfortunate need for caffeine and chinese food before the show, I couldn't get a hold of his CD at the show, but ordered it first thing after getting home. Once it goes into the CD player, don't plan on taking it out. Every track is either toe tapping, hypnotic, meaningful, or all of the above.

I was clicking through the channels on TV one Saturday and saw some guy receiving an award for "the most inspirational music artist" chosen by pro surfers...on ESPN of all channels. I grew up skateboarding and there was one thing I came to realize pretty early on, and that was surfers listened to cooler music than skaters. I ordered the Jack Johnson CD and Ben Harper's "Live From Mars." Sorry Ben, but the Jack Johnson CD hasn't left my CD player. Every track is amazing!

    The first words that come to my mind when I think about this album is fresh. Which is so hard to come by in todays music business. This album is by far my favorite in my collection and the cd that I always pop in to listen to before I hit up my local lineup.

    Because I grew up in Newport, I feel very landlocked going to school in Chico, CA. However Brushfire Fairytales brought me as close to the ocean as possible without paddleing out. It is one of the best albums I've ever heard. If you don't believe me buy it, you will not regret it. Thanks Jack.

    This is Jack's first full length CD and it is simply amazing. In an era where record executives can fabricate bands out of thin air, Brushfire Fairytales gives us a fresh breath of greatness. A friend of mine had me listen to this CD about 2 months ago and it has been in my CD player since that day. I highly recommend this CD to anyone that listens to G.Love, Harper, DMB, or Phish. Go Jack.. You win.

    I came across Jack at a Ben Harper concert at the University of Illinois and ever since my friends and I have been listening to him non-stop. The lyrics are so relative to myself and my friends and the his acoustics just suck you in. i can only wait in anticipation to see him on may 13th. Ooh what a sweet B-day present for my 21st.     I first saw Jack Johnson opening for Ben Harper in the Memorial Auditorium in Burlington, VT on 02/02/01. I liked Jack Johnson's performance just as much as Ben Harpers at that show. This CD perfectly captures their unique sound that you can really get addicted to. I've found myself listening to nothing but this CD for days at a time. This is music to live by. On a scale from 1 to 10, Jack Johnson is god.

Often times you hear songs with predictable lyrics... jack's lyrics aren't like that- they are very unique and this shows obvious talent. overall, the CD is just a FUN cd to listen to! One of the best I've heard in a while.

Since the day I started listening to it, I haven't listened to any else. This is only because of the many great songs on it. Overall, just a good album.
