notes
In 1999 an amazing thing happened to me: I made my first record. As Ani DiFranco once said, "People used to make records, as in a record of an event, the event of people playing music in a room." We tried to capture such an event during that hot, humid, Evansville summer when Jeff Ennis, Brian Mullins, Matt Wilson and I recorded the basic tracks for Evansville. The result is an eight-song reflection on my time spent in a quirky, Midwestern river town, and the joy and heartache of discovering that finding your own voice often means hitting the road.
The tracks I am most proud of are "Evansville" and "Mother Rule", but people often tell me that "Sister" and "Break My Heart" are their favorites. Form your own opinion by sampling some tracks... and hopefully purchasing the CD!

I went to a local coffee house for an unexpected pleasure. I heard the sound of a musician I had never heard of, who gave a tremendous performance of songs from a new album,Evansville In my own home town...Evansville! What a treat! So talented and gifted. She will go far. It definitely made my night.

Pleasantly Surprised!
author: FoxprodI was asked by a friend to go to an Emily Strand concert, so I bought this CD so I knew what to expect. The CD is excellent. I like her voice and the lyrics. I'm looking forward to the show!
great music, great artist
author: a fanEmily Strand is a talented and engaging artist. The CD is folksy and lyrically interesting without delving into the maudlin or self-absorption that many other like-minded musicians fall prey to. And while Evansville hints of Ani Difranco, Joni Mitchell, Patti Griffin, and the like, Emily Strand and her music stand in a class all their own.
Evansville
author: Wide Eyed Babe RecordsEvansville is a beautiful tapestry of music from the hard edge of Nice to the sedating melody of it's title track Evansville. With earth-riviting vocals that cut to the core, inventive harmonies, and dynamic production Evansville is a "gotta have" for any music enthusiasts car stereo. Oh yeah, and Emily's a damn good songwriter as well.
Thoughtful writing, great guitar!
author: Paul GibbyThese are well-written, thoughtful songs, worth multiple-listens. Strong guitar work, too. My favorite is the sentimental title track. Interesting turnabout in that this time the woman is hitting the road!
One of the best CD's released in 2000
author: Jessica HorneIn her debut album Evansville, Emily Strand brings together her strong lyrics with great musical accompaniment that compliments her voice. While her songs tend to be on the long side, listeners will be hard pressed to not join in on the choruses of anthems such as Sister and Nice. Overall, this cd is one of the best for long car rides and any time when intense contemplation is knocking at your door.
