  • An Undiscovered Gem

Few, if any, CDs have affected me like this one. I stumbled across this CD while searching this website. I listened to the samples and, before long, I knew I was onto something special. Standout opening track "Hopeless, Speechless" is so powerful and poignant that it soon became perhaps my favourite song of all-time. A soothing and ambient first half of the track - followed by a spoken-word sample promoting self-confidence - soon gives way to a rousing crescendo of heartfelt vocals. And so it begins. The album ends with the fittingly titled "To Say Goodbye", the last track of the last album recorded by a band that broke up too soon. Having played with the likes of a then-largely-unknown Thursday, Emerson were clearly on the brink of something special. But alas, their music remains largely undiscovered outside of a relatively small circle of people who still remember them with fondness - a group of people, myself included, who can't help but wonder "what if?".
