  • About time, ya jerks!
    author: J-Sin

My buddies from somewhat nearby Morgantown, West Virginia finally have a new album out. About time, ya jerks! Much like their great last album “How Can You Move”, it’s populated with power-pop ballads and perfectly fashioned hooks. There’s a definite take on The Who throughout “Doo-Lang Doo-Lang” as they stretch out their garage rock wings a bit. Biting down on lyrical cleverness again, they paint various stories without tracing—no paint-by-numbers rock ‘n’ roll here. Rarely will you hear an album that refuses to put out a single song that has you even think about reaching for that darned ‘skip’ button. Churning pop ballads that hook you right in and hold you close to softly croon you into a pop-rock heaven where John Lennon says “damn I’m impressed with your songwriting mate!” Loud drumming, tender vocals, and veining guitar-centric indie pop, “Doo-Lang Doo-Lang” is a breathtaking album. Someone wake me up—why aren’t these guys signed yet? I swear I’m going to make it my mission to see about fixing that. And hey guys, thanks for including me in your liner notes—I appreciate it! The Emergency truly are one of the best kept secrets in indie rock music right now.

  • Too long - too short - or just doo lang?
    author: Ralph Spoilsport/exGraffiti Magazine

This is undoubtedly a quantum leap up from their last - but the sheer breadth of the material might be challenging to the average listener's attention span. Despite the well-deserved references, it's like nothing you've ever heard before - at least not in one package. Certain tracks recall everything from "Revolver" to The Who to Alex Chilton to Brian Wilson's "Smile" - and "Eggs & Bacon" sounds like nothing so much as a song Burt Bachrach and Hal David might have written for Dionne Warwick, trumpets and all... If you're NOT an "average listener," this is definitely for you. And there's definitely something here for everyone...

  • Emergency deliver the goods...again!!!
    author: Burt Schmoltz

Apparently something happened to these guys since the last record because they've stopped writing simple garage rock tunes and began writing rock epics. Yes, I said rock epics! Songs like "Do the Uptight" really are that damn good. Songs that don't fit the "rock epic" bill are structured that way intentionally and fall into another category - Masterfully orchestrated pop. Beatles level bliss I tell you! This CD is chock full o' intricate harmonies, superb production, and some of the best bass fills you'll here this millenium (Magic Town). Are you tired of the crap on the radio? Then you really need to hear this!

  • Um, it rules.

This album's got hooks that make even my no-rhythm havin' white ass shake like I know what I'm doing. If you're caught at a party with a bunch of soulless freaks, throw this power pop gem in the hi-fi, and just watch the room light up like magic. AWESOME.
