notes

Electrostim is Dave Ramirez, guitarist for the late New York City pop group, Hypnolovewheel. His debut recording, "Wake Up And Go To Sleep," marks a radical departure from the psychedelic sprawl of his former group, into the realm of electronica.

The 12 instrumentals touch on a wide variety of twisted sounds and broken beats while ultimately maintaining a melodic core.

"Wake Up And Go To Sleep" is the second release on Geodesic Recordings, founded by Dave and fellow Hypnolovewheel guitarist Stephen Hunking, who recently released his debut CD under the moniker Dew-Claw. "Licked" is also available from CD Baby.

  • inovative, inventive, intelligent, intergrating, incredible.

A blend of unique tempos mixed with melodic harmonies of unknown origin. A use of the symphonic mind stimulas, melding the dark with the unusual. In short, "Great Stuff" we need more.

From liquidy washes of orange-colored waves and spiraling harmonies that bleed in and out between textures that range from supple to jarring, Electrostim truly does earn their self-description of "therapeutic experimental electronica via symmetric biphasis square pulsations." While they cite their influences as Hrvatski, Four Tet and Yo la Tengo, their language is built on a unique vocabulary- a juxtaposition of jell-o like jiggling, clever motivic tension and luscious beats so yummy, you almost feel guilty indulging in them. Perhaps the most striking beauty about Wake Up And Go To Sleep is the co-existence of near opposites blended so well that edgy, linear lines meld and stay cohesive with the most fluid and lush tapestries of atmosphere, oozing and spilling through the cracks in your listening, much like water escapes through your fingers, regardless of how tightly you grip. This is utterly addictive.
