notes

EJ Jones the newest member of the Rogues, is best known for his work with the band Clandestine for the past several years. With Clandestine, he toured the US extensively, performed at the Festival Interceltique de Loriant several times, and recorded four albums. Last year he toured with The Willow Band and released a solo album. EJ has received significant critical acclaim for both his playing and compositions. He competes in open-class Highland piping around the US and has competed with World Champion Pipe bands in Scotland. He is also proficient on Uilean pipes, flute, whistle and bombarde. When not touring, he teaches, records, and makes smallpipes in Houston.

EJ Jones has played the Highland bagpipes since age 11 and has been in the prize lists of the U.S. Piping Foundation and the Nicol-Brown Chalice. He still competes when his schedule allows. He also plays flute, whistles, bombarde, border pipes, Irish bagpipes and Scottish smallpipes, which he manufactures himself. EJ's playing is the result of years spent in traditional study; his imagination and orchestration open up new avenues in Celtic music.

EJ performs regularly with the Rogues and Jiggernaut. He also performs now and then with Turlach Boylan, Cluan, Glen Road, Istanpitta, Richard Kean, Ed Miller, Sarah Dinan and Tartanic.

Previously, he founded, wrote music for and played with the group Clandestine from 1991 to 2003.
With Clandestine he recorded four CDs, toured internationally, and won numerous awards.

EJ has been a guest performer on the following recordings:
Turlach Boylan, Tidy Cottage and Shame the Devil
   Jen Hamel, Fine Small Storm
Jiggernaut, In Search of More and Evolution
   Richard Kean, Shrine
   Lise Liddell, White Heart
   Ed Miller, Generations of Change
The Rogues, V.O and Made in Texas
   Sugar Bayou, Nowhere But Gone

  • Lush, evocative music

Bagpipes are combined with all different instruments to create a wide variety of sounds. The "feel" of these songs is hopeful, even joyful. A lovely listening experience.
