notes
New compositions for cello, voice, guitar, piano, harmonica, wooden flute and drums, with special guest, poet Philip Levine, THE SONG OF RIVERS was recorded in 1998 and is now available for the first time. Friesen's instrumental music, songful and rhythmic, is brought to life on this recording in an inspired way by an outstanding ensemble:
Eugene Friesen - cello
Howard Levy - piano, harmonica, wooden flute
Paul Halley - piano, keyboard
Glen Velez - percussion, drums
Chuck Loeb - acoustic and electric guitars
"Friesen is a superior performer able to synthesize a vast array of influences and ideas into an entertaining, musically satisfying whole."
