"the lyricon" is a collection of instrumental compositions for orchestra and fusion group, at once direct in expression, and subtle in direction.
One inspiration for these pieces comes from 1970s fusion:
Weather Report, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever.
Another is classical music: in the way ideas are presented and developed between instruments, rather than in solo virtuosity, and in the use of traditional orchestra. Other influences are easy-listening melody, folk-rock, even world and “space” music. In the spirit of fusion these styles are all part of a musical continuum, rather than an attempt to be all things to all people.
If you like the samples, you will certainly enjoy the CD. The music blossoms organically into formal elegance, generating variations, taking detours, exploring intuitions.
