notes

Mat Edwards is one of those great unsung musicians that when people hear him play say things like "wow where have you been?" or "what are you doing playing here?" Mat has been performing around the U.S. for years and is specifically known for his energetic live shows. His more intimate shows as an acoustic singer/songwriter are also not to be missed. His fans agree, they are glad he keeps doing what he does best.

Mat's musical training started at the age of ten by learning to play the guitar, piano and singing in a symphony boy’s choir. Since this humble beginning, Mat Edwards has performed as a front man and songwriter in numerous bands. These groups have performed original music and/or covered top 40 music, classic rock, country, punk, metal, and rhythm and blues. By playing his way through this maze of musical genres Mat has defined his own sound. Mat Edwards has performed throughout the Pacific Northwest, California, Texas, Illinois, the East Coast and the Mid-West.

Mat released a CD entitled “The Here and Now”. This was his solo debut. The songs on this recording were honed and polished through countless performances at numerous venues and coffee houses. The music has been used in a video game entitled Shady O’Grady a “Sims” based game produced by Gilligames.com

Mat's songs "It Ain't Love", "Tom Coolidge", "Blues Playin' Man" and "The Here and Now" were featured in the top 100 of mp3.com. Mat Edwards’ music can be heard world-wide on KKUP in Cupertino, CA, KGBI in Santa Clarita, CA, KLND in Mobridge, SD, 93.5 FM Radio J in New Brunswick, Canada, X-Cel FM in the U.K., XM Satellite Radio, DH NetRadio, 103.1 FM-Radio Milo in Mol, Belgium, ISON Radio in Hamilton, Australia, as well as in Spain and Slovenia.

Currently Mat is preparing to go into the studio. He plans on recording two different CD's. Most of the songs are finished and just need some minor tweaking. The CD's have no tentative titles but will be completely different. One will be blues and blues/rock like "Fallen Heros" and "Tom Coolidge" while the other CD will be power pop in the vein of "Heart v. Head."He is also interviewing prospective council to obtain a recording contract and hopefully hook up for a tour or two in the next year.

FENDER MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

Mat has used Fender guitars and amps for years. Only Fender guitars and amps give him that signature sound. Mat Edwards' main guitar is named "Ms. Ruby", a 1988 torino red American Standard Stratocaster (modified). Mat played all slide parts and songs on "The Here and Now" on a 1955 Guild X-50 dubbed "Black Eyed Susan" (Guild is owned by Fender). Edwards plays only through Fender amplifiers for that rich, fat sweeping tone.

It's about time that Mat released this CD! I've known Mat since high school and this is the best material I've ever heard from Mat. The CD will be in the CD player for a long time to come! Very impressive!

Mat Edwards puts on his whiskey, gravel voice for the bluesy woes of "Tom Coolidge." This particular track has the feel of modern blues-pop done in the Delta blues style where the sassy licks of an acoustic, slide guitar are softened by just a shot of reverb. The open sounding guitar progressions on this track bring these particular blues into the new millennium with just a dash of folk for flavoring. Edwards' music in general has a "Creed-like" edge with a modern day interpretation of a classic rock sound. When he plays solo though, as he does on "Tom Coolidge," you can hear the heart of a true bluesman. He sings like he lives it and plays like he means it. Whether cranky, mournful, raging or sad, blues are blues no matter how you color them. Edwards colors them with class.

Being a blues fan, I have always been a big favorite of the simple, heartfelt, pain and joy of the music. Much of the material within this cd catches these feelings and takes the listener on a jaunt down memory lane, with suttle reminders of guitar legends Hendrix and Vaughn riffs woven in with playful melodies and souful lyrics. It is a must for any Blues Lover.
