notes
Kids, parents and teachers worldwide have been drawn to the light-hearted and infectious word play of Dennis Lee's poems since the arrival of Alligator Pie in 1974. The award-winning, Canadian author's work has been featured in theatre presentations, anthologies and school texts, but this is the first ever collection of songs to have been developed and recorded. Dennis Lee was also a lyricist for Jim Henson's "Fraggle Rock" from 1982-1986.
Eddie Douglas's versatile acoustic finger-style guitar work and gentle vocals provide a warm and mellow texture to his delicate original settings for Lee's poems. Sing-along choruses are easily accessible to kids, while the varied instrumental accompaniment and back-up vocals add a dimension to each song that is playful, yet musically sophisticated.
"The lyrics embrace humor, alliteration, and silliness to blend perfectly with the laid-back original jazz stylings of Douglas's arrangements. ... Young listeners will appreciate the silliness of these songs, as will parents tired of traditional children's songs." - Kirsten Martindale, Buford Academy, GA (from review: School Library Journal, September 2003)
"Children love this CD so much - I lent mine to a friend at work, and his kids hid it from him so he wouldn't be able to return it!" - Amy Aikman, Victoria, B.C.

My kids can't get enough!
author: Ashley LWe bought this CD to put in an auction basket for our elementary school, mascot "Gators." My kids loved the sample tracks so much that we bought an extra for ourselves. Now, it's all they want to listen to in the car! In just a few short days, they knew almost all the words to every track. They can sing Alligator Pie on a whim ... and do! I love that they love a CD that's so fun and appropriate for their ages (6 and 3) and a CD that I can listen to and not go crazy. Try it ... you'll love it!
Surprisingly soothing
author: Sharon ClaytonI discovered this CD while researching Dennis Lee's poetry as part of a university Children's Literature course. My grown children and I enjoyed many happy hours reading Lee's zany poems and I was expecting Eddie Douglas' version to be much more energetic and invigorating. Instead, Eddie has interpreted Lee's lyrics in a very unique style - I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't heard it for myself, but this CD is soothing and calming!

"We are very happy with our purchase of "Alligator Ice Cream Jelly Delight!" My little girl loves the CD and really responds to the music. It is fun to watch her!! When she is a bit fussy before a nap or bedtime she is lulled to sleep by the sweet sounds of "Alligator Pie" and "Psychapoo". I find that I am humming them at work!" - Vanessa Y. (Brooklyn, New York)
Fabulous music for the lyrics. Very classy and fun to listen to.
author: Jay ThistleI bought this for my 3 year old grandson after reading about it in Macleans magazine. He LOVES it and so do we and his parents. Not your typical "kiddie" stuff but very sophisticated, great music created for these clever lyrics. He will be able to appreciate and enjoy this CD for many years. This is one that you will keep from one generation to the next.
