ABOUT "THE FALLING PLACES"...

"In the few months since we've been selling Edie Carey's CD, we've gotten the most amazing enthusiastic customer feedback like we've never seen before! People have been emailing us, the record store!, after getting their CD in the mail, to tell us that Edie Carey's album is brilliant, amazing, the best thing they've ever bought from us, etc. This kind of feedback is rare. It's only happened with two artists in the two years we've been doing this. If Edie Carey was a stock, I'd be putting my life savings there about now."
- Derek Sivers, president of CD Baby (1998)

"Carey's another one who will hold your heart right in her fist if you let her. I listened to 'If I Were You' and sank right into the grain of my chair. Then I listened to a bunch of other songs from her catalog and sank a little more. Her words and music and singing were like glue that held me - and I'm not known for my stillness - right where I sat."
- Portland Press Herald (Portland, ME/October 2004)

"Edie Carey has the voice, the songs and the presence that will take her right up alongside such stars as Shawn Colvin and Ani DiFranco. Carey's voice soars over these tastily produced songs. One of my favorite albums of the year."
- Folkweb.com

"Last night I dreamt there was a fire in my apartment, and on my way out I grabbed my cat and my copy of Edie Carey's CD - and not necessarily in that order."
- Christopher Smith, Former Music Editor, Performing Songwriter Magazine

"Edie Carey's reputation is well-deserved. She is filled with such high-spirited energy and humor that you can't take your eyes off her. You need to have good stories, good lyrics, and a super-engaging style to pull off truly confessional music, and [she] does it with equal parts love for her audience and star-quality panache."
- Indiegrrl.com

Carey's song, "If I Were You," was nominated for a 1998 GLAMA award in the Acoustic/Folk category. Other 1998 GLAMA nominees include Ani Difranco, Sandra Bernhard, and Rufus Wainwright.

With her warm, graceful voice and her knack for cutting "into a subject...with a diamond-edged blade**," Edie Carey grabs hold of her audiences and doesn't let go until she steps off the stage. While her songs are what first draw listeners in, it's what she says in between that keeps them coming back. Carey's wry and self-mocking humor, coupled with her ability to tell a great story, makes audiences feel as though they have just spent the evening with a very close friend. Given the triple threat of her magnetic stage presence, heart-grabbing songs, and almost unearthly voice, it's no wonder that the word about Carey is traveling fast. Performing Songwriter called her last release, When I Was Made, "a lovely, shimmering, heart-felt record"; Harp Magazine proclaimed it "bare of self-pity and full of down-to-earth revelation"; Paste declared it "vulnerable and pleasing...rich with humanity and insight," and Country Music Weekly gave it "****."

Since beginning her rigorous touring schedule in 1999, Carey has performed in rooms such as The Bottom Line and Bowery Ballroom in New York City, The Fillmore in San Francisco, Boston's Somerville Theatre and Club Passim, The Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton, Nashville's Bluebird Cafe, Genghis Cohen in Los Angeles, The Opera House in Toronto, and The Borderline in London. She has also played repeat performances at The Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, The Southern Womyn's Festival, The Houston Women's Festival, and Chicago's Edgewater Days and Market Days. She has shared the stage with artists as varied as Leo Kottke, Ani DiFranco, Jonatha Brooke, Lucy Kaplansky, Patty Larkin, and Sandra Bernhard, and has toured extensively with Melissa Ferrick.

  • Like a visit from an old friend

I love this CD so very much. I first heard in while sharing a tiny apartment in New York City a year ago. After moving on, I came across it again while scanning through CD Baby and immediately ordered it. It's truly like reconnecting with an old friend I haven't seen in awhile. It's so beautiful in its simplicity. Easily one of my favorite cd's.

My request was handled perfectly. However, I would like to make the following suggestion. If possible it would be a real bonus to customers if they had an opportunity to listen to brief portions of the CD they want to buy to make sure it's what they want. I had listened to a CD driving home one envening. It was by two male vocalist and I remembered that one of the tracks had the phrase "lean into me". I searched for that title and found it on the CD I ordered. But actually it was not the album or singer(s) I wanted. Other than that I love the service and convenience.

  • I enjoy listening to this album. It is extremely therapeutic.

This album is one of my favorites. I heard this album at a friends house and fell in love with every song. I had to get my own copy. My favorite song on the album is Margaret. This truly is a beautiful song the hit a emotional button in me. I also enjoy listening to Accidental Poet. There are not many albums that you can listen from the beginning to end. This is the first album that I can not stop listening too. It is absolutely sensational!

  • Edie Carey is absolutely amazing! :o)

this cd is a beautiful debut for edie carey. the songs are carefully crafted with edie's powerful and effective voice, guitar and lyrics. she immediately invites her listeners in to personal aspects of her life - relationships with her mother [margaret] and lovers [i never thought i'd say this, if i were you, and in my bed], her humor- so commonly about herself- [the middle], and her amazing stlye and enveloping energy. there is just something about this combination of edie's work on "the falling places" that makes you feel good. her voice is perfectly soothing and her lyrics are uplifting and smart. look for her newer work too- "call me home", "come close: the live (photo) album", and "when i was made" (set for release on august 26, 2003). this woman is well on her way.... :o)

The Falling Places is as real and intimate as truth and intimacy gets. It's every emotion you've ever felt from everything you've ever learned expressed musically. And if that isn't enough to sell you, just listen to her voice! Ecstasy in rhythm . . .

Edie came to my local coffee house (The Cup & Chaucer) and i loved her immediately! I bought the CD that very day and have never put it down. Every song on the album is a piece of art. Just saw Edie perform again today! As a heavy rock/techno listener it says a lot that I am an Edie Carey fan (as my taste is far different from her style of music, but i find her music really moving). Her lyrics are full of emotion, she sings with all her heart, she is an overall refreshing performer and a wonderful person. Her songs are real quality and it shows how much work was put into them. Her songs touch the heart and speak directly to you. Great CD, pick it up and look for the upcoming album!

I'm an singer/songwriter by myself and got Edie's Cd "The Falling Places"a couple of weeks ago here in austria. I always fall in love with this thrilling voice and powerful performance of this very interesting artist and intersting lady as well. She combines a deep sense of emotional sensitivity and the energy of a well experienced young woman. Every time I listen to her, I'd love to sing together with her and wished to hear more. Unfortunately I live too far away to be able to see her live performing, but I really do hope it happens one day. Edie Carey is one with her music, she is authentic and she can be a friend in times you feel alone. Listen to her album, close your eyes and ................ feel it!!!!! All the best to you, edie!!

Sometimes, you hear a song and it changes your life forever. In my case, listening to Edie Carey for the first time was one of those defining moments. “The Falling Places” is full of beautiful music, from a beautiful artist, that helps to make this place a more beautiful world for all of us. I am proud to say that each one of these songs is a good, good friend of mine. I dare you to listen to this album and not fall in love with it. Roel Torres, Writer/Host for Lakbay TV.

Edie Carey's soaring voice and breathy vocal attack may remind some of Ani Difranco. However, her growing legion of fans know that Edie’s clever lyrics on the inconsistencies of romance fall closer to wry humor than they do to Ani's angst. Another folk diva has arrived!
