notes
In a world where all of Eds banjos were under seige a new bugle call is about to blow. This time Ed Ackerly and Friends new copmpact disc recording"Iron Mountain Banjo" is for real.
Inspired by The Lower Hudson Valley region of N.Y. ,more specificaly the hamlet of New Milford,Ed has put together a collection of his original banjo tunes with the help of some local talent.
This c.d. contains something for all fans of acoustic music, leaning heavily toward contemporary bluegrass instrumentals.
This c.d. does not feature strictly banjo as the title might suggest, rather all insturments typically found in a bluegrass and other styled ensemble.
Ed has called upon his bluegrass pals "Oxford Depot"
www.oxforddepot.net to help him with this project. They lend very strong musical support. He also called upon dobro player Abbie Gardner to play on several cuts. Abbie is best known for her work with the Americana band "Red Molly". Eds long time guitar picking buddy John Sheehan lends his strong tasteful , flat picking skills on several cuts as well. We also have Christy Halligan from the celtic rock band "Emish" very aptly handling the fiddle parts on 4 trad fiddle tunes. Rachel Handman ,well known in the Hudson Valley for her tasteful and adventuresome violin/fiddle playing with numerous groups in the region, lends a very impressive hand on the project. Glenn Arnowitz of Big Cow Records, who recorded and engineered the disc makes an appearance with some very tasty harmonica and accordian playing to add just the right touch.
