notes

A band of mutants: 2 drummers, 2 guitars, bass, electronics, and vocals. 23 tracks on CD. Post-Hardcore-Experimental-Math Rock and soundtrack music. (Members of Iron Rite Mangle, The Dents, Season To Risk, Bi Polar Coaster, Mumble and Peg, the Mercantilers)

This CD includes rough tracks recorded in Steve Albini's flooded basement in Chicago, home 4-track and DAT mixes, and a week-long recording session with Mark A Miller (Out Out) at Wendell Studio in Western MA. Toboggan mixed at Syncro Sound in Boston by Tom Hamilton. The final mix and mastering was done at West End Studio in Kansas City, MO by Paul Malinowski (SHINER) and Joel Hamilton (Player's Club/Book of Knots), 9/9/99.

E.A.R.S.H.O.T. spent their high school years playing together on Cape Cod, MA, formulating these songs during hundreds of shows all over the North East since 1989. Quickly bored with their hardcore roots and geeks by nature, they experimented with tape loops, field recordings, broken pianos, and homemade percussion and electronic equipment.

Members of the band also composed experimental electronic music, sometimes scoring short films or live performances for other artists in the Cape Cod area, and E.A.R.S.H.O.T. incorporated a great deal of this 'soundtrack' music into live shows.

E.A.R.S.H.O.T. has played with many bands over the years: Unsane, Green Day, King Missile, Chumbawumba, Crash Worship, Alice Donut, Green Magnet School, SHIV, Glazed Baby, Holy Cow, TREE, Chilmark, Dagobah, The Laurels, Toxic Popcicle, Iowa Beef Experience, and Six Finger Satellite.

The band also ran an underground club for several years on Cape Cod known as the Googleplex, offering cheap all-ages shows of touring bands, DJs, and movie screenings.

  • Great songs, great sound quality. Punk, prog, noise, metal, and what else?!
    author: Rocky

Really cool, Really different. Really weird. Some very good songwriting, and amazing production. Great bass player. Some of it sounds like an indie horror movie soundtrack, some of it is faster, tricky hardcore...some of it more tribal with the two drummers going off, and some put me in a trance. Great vocalist. This CD has lots of surprises, like what?! I thought noone used guitar solos anymore, and very interesting use of electronic instruments. Highly recommend.

  • I was drunk the whole time

  • Ahead of its time!
    author: Joel

This Cd is a must for people who know what cheer accident, table,mr bungle,MANGLE, breadwinner, confessor, and real punk rock sounds like. This band was way ahead of its time. This release is a welcome addition to any heavy, challenging music fans collection.

  • Rare, experimental yes, strong, but soothing.Chaotic but unnervingly regimented
    author: Scott

EARSHOT, the music i hear on the C.D. is the kind of audio pleasure you don't dig up very often and is not easily found, however I did I am glad and I am just trying not to sound so excited. One thing I did find out is not to be confused w/new comer band w/same or similar name. From what I can hear Punk influence w/ progressive approach a metal sound I compare to... I don't know who, I feel King Crimson, NoMeansNO, I hear dissedent full tones, happy harmony, tribal beats mix with raw aggressive drum coor valor. If I could only walk with 10 albums, I would pick this as one for its diverse range, its unpretentios yet in your face show off...I can't stop playing it, I am not crazy but it gave me visions, by the end I felt the guilty wretched pain of HELL and the dreamy beautiful sensation i feel is Heaven... ENJOY carefully.ss
