notes
Eagle Spirit is a traditional Native American singing and drumming group that has been performing throughout Northern California at pow-wows, festivals, ceremonies and special gatherings. Their repertoire consists of various pow-wow dance songs including grass and jingle dance as well as prayer and honoring songs. A family-oriented group, Eagle Spirit's songs seek to honor Mother Earth and to connect with Spirit. They do not so much seek to "perform" these songs, but to pray with communities they sing and drum for, honoring the four directions and the gifts of Great Spirit.
Drum-keeper Mark Owens (Choctaw & Sac-n-Fox) was recently honored by KQED as an American Indian Heritage Local Hero. As the Program Director for the Marin Abused Women's Services Men's Violence Program, Mark teaches men and women to use certain tools to cultivate safe, healthy and loving environments. Mr. Owens is faithfully trying to introduce this program to American-Indian reservations nationwide. He also brings his culture to people outside of his community through his Native-American drum group, Eagle Spirit and the Medicine Warrior Dancers, and through singing, storytelling, public speaking and meditations. Mr. Owens lives in Sebastapol with his loving wife, two wonderful children, a fabulous Australian Shepherd dog, Omar, 4 dairy goats and a few chickens and a huntress cat, Maggie Underfoot.
The drum is the heartbeat of the Earth. Eagle Spirit's the drumming and singing weaves it's way thru the deep conciousness of all faiths, resonating in our collective DNA with the power of peace. We hope you will connect with Mother Earth and to your own voice of peace by listening to these ancient songs. All my relations.

Eagle Spirit. Land of our birth.
author: John Wind SurridgeReal good! I recommend this for sure. LakotaReplublic (YouTube channel).
Great intro to Native American music for the uninitiated.
author: Jeanne DevinEver since my first exciting trip to Foxwoods Casino in the late 1990's, I've been looking for a CD of traditional Native American songs and dances that would let me clearly hear the singing over the drums. This CD does this and much more. The singers are exceptional. The drums are heard without being overpowering. And the added sound effects, of war, nature and the rest, make you feel you're living alongside the people of the tribe. The narration that gives the sense of the title cut, Land of Our Birth, summarizes the CD beautifully. Even those who don't subscribe to the whole spirituality of Native Americans should find this recording a great exploration of the culture, which should make them more sensitive towards the concerns of these fellow citizens whom we hardly ever see off the reservations.
Beautiful music that uplifts the spirit !
author: Cassie RoseThis CD is hypnotic. It kinetically connects me to spirit and allows my spirit to soar unencumbered by the hurry sickness of everyday life. The drum is such a simple yet sacred instrument and you can feel the singing right thru your heart. If you've never listened to Native American music -- this is the perfect cd to start with. If you've been into it for years, this cd will take you home.
a CD for every living room around the world provided you have one
