notes
Duo Sesoko is the collaborative effort of classical guitarists Eric Brenton and Lee Zimmer. Formed in 1995, they perform a varied repertoire that spans the Baroque Era to the Twentieth Century. Their musical program is a blend of style and technique that is musically exciting, expressive, and soulfully fresh. The duo's name is in homage to their mutual instructor, Seiko Sesoko. Maestro Sesoko is recognized as a major influence in the growth of the classical guitar in Southern California in the 1960's and 70's.
Lee Zimmer is the head of the guitar studies at La Sierra and California Baptist Universities. He is also in charge of the guitar, bass, and band curriculum development for the Fender Museum of Music and the the Arts. He is the current president of the Orange County Guitar Circle, a nationally recognized guitar society in existence for over 35 years. Lee studied classical guitar privately for several years with Maestro Seiko Sesoko. He has performed in master classes with Manuel Barrueco, Sharon Isben, David Russell, Michael Newman, and Jorge Morel. Lee has also arranged several pieces of great composers for guitar solo, duo, and quartet. This cd features his arrangement of Le Tombeau de Couperin by Maurice Ravel.
Eric Brenton is on staff at both Biola and Vanguard Universities. Also an accomplished violinist, Eric coaches and directs the string orchestra at the Orange County High School of the Arts. In 2001, Eric released a solo disc entitled "Romance" for the Native Language label. Eric began his musical career as a guitar pupil of Seiko Sesoko in 1962. His violin instructors include Noumi Fischer, Joseph Nardulli, and Irving Geller.
