notes

The Duckstep ( Luca Marianini, tp/ Giovanni Belli, gt/ Graziano Brufani, cb)

This special trio is born in 2005 and, after a whole year of gigs, has recorded its first cd , thanks to Drycastle records in the person of Maurizio "Bozorius" Bozzi , the producer.
This cd contains both jazz standards played with original arrangements and new songs, all performed with a charming and precious interplay.
The inspiration for this combo comes from other similar experiences like: Catherine/Harrell/Van De Geyn or McBride/Payton/Whitfield and the same Chet Baker who loved this kind of ensemble.
These are all class “A” musicians, each one graduated in classical music, teachers, well known as session men in symphonic, pop and jazz ensembles, talented, young and experienced..in other words among the best musicians in the European scene.

  • Jazz che accarezza le orecchie
    author: Musilosophy

Mi piace molto questo tipo di Jazz e come suonano i Duckstep:interagiscono molto bene tra loro e si può ascoltare una polifonia a tre voci.Bellissima musica. Ottimi musicisti. Complimenti.

  • They play what might be described as minimal swing.
    author: Steve Head

Not having to compete with a drummer thrashing about is probably why they have a very relaxed cool sound to their numbers. On this, their first album, they present us with four original compositions and five covers that include songs by Cole Porter, Hank Mobley, Herbie Hancock, an enchanting version of the pop hit from the seventies " Une Belle Histoire", and a swinging interpretation of "I Remember You", do you remember Frank Ifields' version? Well no, these guys don't yodle. Their own songs are Belli and Mariani compositions, "Duckstep", "Melody For Cristina", "Jo For Wes" and "Kika" feature some excellent soloing, strong melody lines and good arrangements that are wonderfully reminiscent of the golden sixties. A live studio recording warm, spontaneous and fresh...

  • I really love this shape of jazz
    author: Franz Torben

I really love this shape of jazz, cool, intimate, relaxing, with a genuine research of interplay, the quality of sound is at the top. Duckstep's version of the famous pop song from the seventies " Une Belle Histoire" by M. Fugain is the best track, in my opinion; I appreciate their taste about jazz standards: a beautiful Driftin' by Hancock an uncommon Funk In Deep Freeze. The european jazz at its best !
