notes

"Dubmatix, one man with a relentlessly inventive approach to reverb, rhythm, and reggae - the Primary colors on any dub producers palette. On "Renegade Rocker" he works with vocal legends such as Linval Thompson, Alton Ellis and Sugar Minott to create an album of deep authentic, glass-rattling dub platters"
iTunes USA July 2008

"Canadian producer, Dubmatix, creates some of the freshest reggae around. What's so fabulous about the outing by Dubmatix out of Canada is he's taken dub & reggae and pushed the envelope in a creative sense and taken it to another level...it's like a brand new break through"
Dermot Hussey XM Radio "The Joint"

"This time Dubmatix lays down another tight, well-produced collection with guest appearances by Alton Ellis, Sugar Minott and Ranking Joe."

Dubmatix’s new disc, Renegade Rockers, is without a doubt the most star-studded Canadian reggae album of all time. David Dacks - Exclaim! Magazine

"My vote for Reggae Album of the Year"
Under the cool moniker Dubmatix, King has just released Renegade Rocker, a record packed with 16 rib cage-rattling blasts of authentic dub, classic reggae and electro-dub. The musicianship and production is stellar, and the contributions of reggae legends Michael Rose, Sugar Minott, Alton Ellis and Willi Williams make this disc even more essential.
Errol Nazareth - The Toronto Sun & CBC Radio "Big City Small World"

"One of the best makers of Dub in this Country"
Garvia Bailey - CBC Radio Canada

Toronto's Dubmatix do it right on Renegade Rocker, a full-throttle set of upbeat, positive reggae with tight riddims, inspired dub effects, sweet horns and guests galore. Ranking Joe (with two excellent contributions, "Tornado" and "Give Thanks and Praises"), Linval Thompson ("Peace and Love"), Michael Rose ("Easy Down"), Pinchers ("Rock And A Hard Place"), Alton Ellis (on the superb "Blessing Of Compassion"), Sugar Minott, Willi Williams, Wayne Smith and more pack these hardcore roots riddims with energy and powerful performances and the dubs make it clear the disc would sound great ever if there were no guests. An excellent set from beginning to end.
Chuck Foster - The BEAT Magazine (Vol. 27 No. 3 2008 Oct/Nov)

Dubmatix Soundsystem are one of Canada's premier reggae / dub / DnB soundsystems. Performing as a duo with live production, on-the-fly mixing and live bass and/or with guest vocalists, Dubmatix have been tried and tested successfully with other reggae heavy weights such as Freddie McGreggor, Anthony B, Ranking Joe, Linval Thompson and more. In 2007 brought them to Europe for 3 tours and one mini-tour in Western Canada playing to thousands of fans. 2008 brings a new release "Renegade Rocker" due out May 2008 in Canada (Europe T.B.A.) featuring several generations of legends as well as a heavy dose of pure dub & electro dub.

Also in the works is the debut release of alter ego Ironbelly and the full-length reggae-inspired Drum&Bass.

Swirling echoes reverberate in the background, striking paranoia and wonder into lovers of reggae all over. This is dub and roots in the classic rockers tradition, with sultry melodies and praises to Jah almighty overriding a crackling, bass-heavy groove. The goal has been to maintain close ties to the classic and legendary sounds heard in 70s roots and dub while incorporating new technologies and styles. Fusing these sounds has opened up points of exploration into almost any musical style while maintaining the foundation set by classic dub

  • Great Dub/Roots
    author: Rastadawg11

This CD is very good. Some of my favorites are the instrumental dubs. #9 is a great tune that reminds me of the early style of reggae. Dubmatix definitely has right ingredients on the album (sounds sooooo Jamaican). My very favorite is #8, followed closely by #5 with Mykal Rose. The last song is surprisingly addictive and good for a pop-sounding tune.

  • Album of the year!?

This may be the best album of 2008. Its a bit early to say but this strong album is hard to beat. Great dub/roots. Alot of classic artits performing on top notch riddims. There is a kinda 70´s feel on this album but it still feel fresh. Highly recommended.

  • Fantastic Album

I'm not generally one to submit reviews but this album provides all the necessary motivation. I'll stop short of crowning Renegade Rockers the best reggae album of the year but it's easily in the top handful that I've heard (and I listen to a whole heap of reggae). Dubmatix get mostly top-notch efforts from the stellar guest vocalists, and the vocal tracks take nothing away from the dub workouts that are every bit as strong. Fantastic release!
