This new CD is simmering with the sounds of traditional blues. All of the tracks were written by Dr. "Feelgood" Potts. His hard-hitting harmonica is the lead instrument on all songs, including seven vocal tracks and three scorching harmonica instrumental tracks. This bluesman has a story to tell with harmonious tales comparable to the works of artists like Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, Junior Wells, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters and other blues artists and harmonica players popular in the late 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s, when the "from the belly" blues radiated the airwaves. It is Memphis-style blues that originated in the Mississippi Delta where the All-American blues artist, Dr. "Feelgood" Potts was born and raised. This music takes you back to the sound of the original Memphis Beale Street blues that saturated the sounds of the streets, juke joints, and clubs over a long stretch of years. It is also known as "authentic" blues; the kind that have you shaking your head to the beat, squeezing your eyes together, and not being afraid to get ugly for the blues. Listening to Dr. "Feelgood" Potts on these tracks compels all blues lovers to take notice. These bona fide blues will generate old and new fans alike; because everybody loves a genuine classic. Going Down to Memphis / Patriotic Blues
author: S. E. RussellEver hear, “patriotic” when describing the blues? After listening, I think “Going Down to Memphis” is downright patriotic. Listening to this blues CD gives you a feeling that goes down to your bones. When you listen to the first track, with same title as the CD, you’ll experience thrilling, chilling effects as you’re feeling the sting of Dr. “Feelgood” Potts and that lyrical harmonica. That harmonica intro to “Going Down to Memphis” catches you in the throat and almost brings you to tears. Listen for the reference to one of America’s favorite streets, Beale Street. You hear his pride in being associated with Memphis and Beale Street in the lyrics and it’s all backed up by the brilliance of the harmonica in between the verses. That’s the patriotic part to me: loving your city and a street in it so much that you want to sing about it. Another track, “Ramblin’ Mind Blues” is just sassy, and in this one, “Feelgood” has that harmonica talking to you: Waaaaaaaaaah-wa-wa-wa-waaaaaaaaaaah. Throughout the 10-track CD you’ll hear the harmonica, sometimes solo, other times working between gut punching lyrics. I’m so glad I discovered this CD and I recommend this CD as some good ol’ blues that you can pop in and listen to while driving or bring out for your next “grown folks” party or get-together. You’ll be the hit of the Labor Day picnic. I say use it for all the holidays, your birthday and anniversary because “Going Down to Memphis” will become known for bringing patriotism to the blues.
