(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

Melodic hard rock, mixing elements of grunge and blues and guitar driven riffs with soaring melodies and catchy choruses. Vocals switch between sexy soulfulness and gruff intensity with a brooding attitude that keeps you craving more.

notes

Los Angeles-based quartet down from hollow, a gritty, blue-collar outfit, has carved a deep niche in the glossy Hollywood scene. Punctuated by frontman Cody Hopkins's unhinged and unpredictable stage behavior, dfh's energetic live shows have had them on the hot list of Hollywood's local club scene.

Taking elements from deep, dirty blues to dark, heavy rock, down from hollow puts a mysterious, forbidden spice back into modern rock music. Their bluesy, monster guitar riffs, greasy low-end rhythms and smokey, Joe Cocker-possessed-by-a-demon vocals seamlessly mix with straight-forward hooks and crafty melodies. The result is music that grabs, claws and sticks to your insides.

The band was formed in 2004 when Hopkins and guitarist Shay K Vanhorn met in the bathroom of an L.A. nightclub. Under the guidance of Hopkins's older brother (of L.A. favorites Paperback Hero and former AMC recording artists Asa Cruz), the duo penned dozens of songs and culled an all-star rhythm section that includes bassist/child prodigy Bryan Boyle, from Boston's eclectic music scene.

In 2006, down from hollow entered the studio to record its debut full-length album with Grammy-nominated engineer/producer Joe Ayoub, now on board as the band's permanent drummer. With the help of writer/producer Daniel Batista (Asa Cruz, Open Window) to coax the the Down from Hollow sound out of the boys, the record quickly became one of the top sellers of indy music sites such as www.digstation.com. The album will join a growing list of accomplishments that includes television licensing (early demo recordings were featured on CBS's hit show 'Without a Trace' and WB's 'Felicity' as well as landing the opening music to the indie movie Iowa, starring Rosanna Arquette.), packed performances, and an ever-growing fan base.

With songs and lyrics that characterize the burdens of the human condition, down from hollow has struck a chord in their fans that reflect the hunger for something real, organic and righteous. Amen. The debut recording, "Scar Conditioned", was released January 22, 2008. Finally, the sermons will be heard.

I love the CD. I liked the demo versions a little better than the LP, but maybe that is just because I am so used to them. I recommend it to just about anyone.
