In the summer of 2006, I suddenly began writing songs every day. For the most part, they came to me in dreams and I just found them on my guitar in the morning and did a quick recording on my mp3 player. I practiced the new songs as they started to pile up, and they took on a life of their own. I hit the road with my guitar and continued writing songs from hotel rooms across Southeast Asia and during a visit to Canada. I wandered for about two months, collecting airline stickers on my guitar case. The mp3 was filling up with songs.
With my holiday at an end, I returned to Seoul, where I was working at the time, and rounded up some musician friends to help me develop these songs. Dion Thomas is the man behind the lead guitar licks on these songs. He has an amazing ability to give a song depth and feeling with his melodic sense and eloquent phrasing. Jeff Stir played keyboards, adding warmth and character to the mix, plus the great intro on Dreams Come True and the shredding and beats on Nothin’ in the World. These songs evolved substantially from their original “hotel” versions, and they’ve continued to evolve since this CD was recorded. We intended to add a drummer and redo all of these songs in a real studio, and may still do that one day, but there’s something unique about these versions from this CD.
