ABOUT THE COMPOSER

Douglas Edward is an award-winning composer whose music has supported many films that have screened at international festivals, including the RealHeART Film Festival in Toronto, the Hollywood HD/DV Film Festival in Los Angeles, and the Cannes Film Market in Paris. Other festivals include such areas as San Francisco, New York, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, and Park City.

Douglas is a classically trained Violinist and Pianist who also performs on the Viola, Cello, and Guitar. He has a degree in Music Composition and Theory with extensive credits in Accompanying, Choir, and Orchestration. Douglas possesses an impassioned musical writing style, an eclectic blend of electronic with acoustic instruments, and emotive
orchestral timbres that help in producing the best scores possible for all types of filmmakers.

Kiko Martinez from the SA Current had this to say about one of his feature films, "The best thing about the film - hands down - is the fantastic score composed by Douglas Edward". Kim Jindra from Indie Express had this to add, "I didn't care for the songs over the credits, but the score accentuated the movie".

Douglas received an award for Artistic Excellence in "Best Impact of Music in a Feature Film" from the 2008 Park City Film Music Festival, an award for "Best Movie Soundtrack" from the 2008 Bare Bones International Film Festival, and the Columbine Award for "Best Film Score" from the 2008 Moondance International Film Festival.

"I believe the most important aspect of any piece of music is the delicate use of emotion", the composer explains. "The right type of emotion, the right amount, and at just the right time. That is why I am such an advocate for using real instruments in place of their synthetic replicas. A single well-performed orchestral instrument is much more impactful to my ears than an entire digital symphony."

Douglas has written music for many directors including Bruce Guido, Aaron Marquette (Judas: One of Twelve), Kerry Valderrama (Garrison), Benjamin Wilbanks (Journey to Iraq),
Pablo Veliz (7 Kilos), Robert Paschall Jr (Cheaters), Gregory Mansur (freelanced for KRON-TV, BBC-TV, NOVA, and National Geographic TV), Charles LaMendola (six time Telly Award-winning writer/director), and Richard Allen (former Head Writer for NBC's Days of Our Lives and two time Emmy Award-winning Associate Writer for CBS's As the World Turns).

Douglas currently spends his time writing original music for Film and other media.
