notes
After twelve years of developing his songwriting in his bedroom, open mics, and coffeehouses, Doug has been a regular on the Dallas-Ft Worth-Denton music scene since 2000 fronting the up-and-coming roots rock band, The Lonelies (www.thelonelies.com), and playing solo under the moniker of Doug Burr as well. These efforts have not gone unnoticed.
Doug took home the blue ribbon for the Americana/Roots/AAA category of the 2003 International Songwriting Competition, won first place in the national Mark Heard songwriting contest sponsored by Silent Planet Records Summer 2002, and was nominated for best acoustic/folk act by the 2003 Dallas Observer Music Awards. In like manner, The Lonelies have received nominations from the Dallas Observer Music Awards and the Rockzilla.net Music Awards. Doug's music can be found on multiple record label compilations, including: Track #1 on the "United States of Americana" released by Shut Eye Records and being promoted to commercial Ameicana radio in the US during Winter 2005, and "Hot Unsigned Americana Compilation, Volume Three" released by the Catamount Collective. Most recently CMT.com (as in Country Music Television) has invited Doug to be a part of their New Voices No Cover page along with such other notable acts as The Green Cards, Aaron Watson, and Caitlin Cary (formerly of Whiskeytown).
The Sickle & the Sheaves: Released May 2003 - this record was produced by Steven Collins, of the band Deadman (whose resume includes recording with Mark Howard of Daniel Lanois, U2, and Willie Nelson notoriety), and with some mastering work by Malcolm Burn (whose resume includes working with Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, and Daniel Lanois). This is Doug's debut full-length solo project. Falling somewhere between Blind Willie Johnson and Emmylou's Wrecking Ball, Doug describes this record as a labor of love, "A good friend of mine, in the death-throes of cancer, requested me to sing 'Meet You in the Sunrise' at his funeral and I realized I needed to record that song...all my southern protestant heritage was there just waiting to get out, and I came up with all the tunes for this CD...this record is very powerful to me."

Loved it!
author: Mike and Valerie MasseyDoug Burr, as I remember him, was a younger guy my little sister hung out with in our church youth group. Who knew he'd grow up to be such an incredible artist?! Truly, we have enjoyed this album very much, and also his new one-- On Promenade.
Brilliant album
author: Magnus SundellGreat songs, great music...One of the best spiritual albums I've heard. (And I've heard too many...) Goes right to the heart. Very uplifting. Thank you. Please come to Sweden and play!
One of the most moving recordings I've ever heard.
author: The Upshaw ReviewDoug has a unique gift to write words that penetrate the mind, body, and soul. If ever there is a record that will both move you to tears and give you comfort, this is it. By far one of the most moving recordings I've ever heard.
Wonderful
author: Ian StevensonIf you buy one CD from this site make sure it is this one. If 'Dark As The Night' wasn't quite possibly the best record ever there would be another 6 stand out tracks. Absolute quality from start to finish. Go spread the word!
