Double Decker Stringband has been playing and singing old-time music under that name since 1977. The band's major inspiration comes from vintage recordings of the Southern stringbands who dominated the country music industry in the 1920's and 1930's. All of the members of Double Decker are vocalists and versatile instrumentalists, allowing the band to employ a wide variety of vocal arrangements and instrumental lineups.
This album features that diversity, with a wide range of traditional styles on banjo, guitar, fiddle, and vocals. Sources include the Georgia Yellow Hammers, Carter Brothers and Son, and the Alabama Shieks. Through it all, Double Decker is fresh and playful. Though they are quite fluent in the styles of previous generations, the truly admirable quality of this band and this album is that the music is approachable, authentic, and inventive. Not many contemporary musicians reach a level of comfort within folk music so that they can be creative within the tradition. Double Decker has no trouble, though, in crafting new 'classics,' creating modern treasures that will be enjoyed for years to come.
The band has a storied history that includes appearances at The Smithsonian Institute, the Brandywine Mountain Music Convention, Merlefest, the Library of Congress, and Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion."

The Rest is Yet to Come
author: Dixie DeckerI sent this CD to my son Brian whose birthday was April 8 when he turned 51. It arrived on his birthday and that made me happy. I was excited when I saw the name of the band because of our name, but also because Brian and Erick our grandson were playing the old "tater bug" mandolin (over the phone)that belonged to my father who played both mandolin and fiddle of the oletime music that I grew up hearing and participating in. They are playing together now on a guitar and mandolin and fiddle a little also. I listened to your music on the Cd and it brought back many memories becuase it is the same kind I heard from my Daddy who learhned it from his father, and want to pass along. It is very well played and enjoyable. Thanks very much, Dixie Decker
