notes

Once upon a time, there was a homeless man who lived in the park, drank beer, played guitar, and sang to the moon. Folks in the desert came to know this lonesome wolf as the Moondog...a tall, strange fellow who sat out on street corners singing his funny and outlandish songs to anybody who would lend an ear. His hunger for a bigger audience grew, so Moondog decided to clean up his act, put together a band and began playing at the local saloons.....And so was born the Dog of the Moon.

Dog of the Moon is the stage name of singer/songwriter Aaron Carl Swensen of Phoenix, Arizona. Inspired by the musical legends of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and Neil Young, Dog of the Moon specializes in his own cosmic blend of 'Country Folk Rock with an Outlaw Hippie Attitude'. His collection of original tunes range from slow, reflective ballads (Think I'll Lose My Mind, Dog on a Leash), to mid-tempo country ramblers(The Drunkard's Way, Crazy on Lazy Days), to heavy, outrageous rockers(Boogie in the Madhouse, Get Outta My Head). Upon hearing Dog of the Moon, one may recall a time long ago when life was simpler, people were friendlier, and the music was much more meaningful.

There isn't a single track on there that I don't love. Everyone of them I can relate to or know of someone they remind me of. Great music, total talent! I can't wait for the next one.

  • Talent is there
    author: Boynton

Fun to listen too. More solos needed. The dog is a good guitar player, needs to show off his guitar skills alittle more. Band is tight, lyrics are a downer, but he has lived the life. Can't wait to hear more.

  • as good as it ever was

  • Like nothing you've heard before - kinda.
    author: Corrin Green

This guy is authentic; and this isn't the last you'll here of him. I've been listening to it for a fucking week and I still can't get enough of it. That's so weird it's scary. Buy this CD!!! I'm not a pro reviewer, so I'll just write what I thnk. Aaron's lyrics make sense when you first listen to them, but even after ten listens, you're still figuring them out. And the whole time I'm fuckig wanting to dance to it. I really want to see him play out! I haven't heard anything like this before. Am I drunk? Yeah. Why?

  • Classic "fuck you" music
    author: Paul Wade

This music is mean, aggressive, and straight up psychotic all at once. If you don't believe me check out "Tear Apart This Town". This band needs proffesional counseling. The cool thing is I don't think they will.

  • Enough said
    author: Chris Whitmear

There's nothing to say about these guys except that they rock. I recorded them two years ago and they didn't sound half as good as they do now. I'm surprised to hear it. I also want to let them know that I'm sorry for not capturing them when they gave me a chance. Congrats

  • rock opera for drunks

If you're sick of the crap that's out there, this doesn't disappoint. This is the real deal. You have to give this a chance no matter what you like. The best album I've heard all year, period. This dude needs a contract!

  • Where the hell did this guy come from???
    author: vinnie voodoo

Out of nowhere, sparkling with the most kick ass acoustic guitar parts ever laid down in the twenty first century comes this guy!!! Where the hell did he come from??? I recommend this cd highly to anyone that would like to explore the days when albums were meant to be listened to in their entirety....... There is no doubt about it, this cd kicks major ass... This is Johnny Cash on Acid, man!!! Buy it, before they shut him down for too much of a good thing!!!........ This cd does not disappoint!!!

  • True wordsmith...give me more
    author: True Believer

Having seen Dog of the Moon playing live I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of the CD. This artist is a true wordsmith, with lyrics you can sink your teeth into. Somtimes fun, sometimes soulful, and always thought provoking Dog of the Moon's first effort is worth adding to any CD collection. I look forward to the next one...and the next one.......and the next one.

  • This cd rocks!!!
    author: vapor dugan

I didn't know what to expect from this, but when I took a listen I was absolutely blown away. This is one hell of a songwriter and a great album. I was pleasantly surprised, and decided to order more for my friends.

  • Good Poetry....need key changes....drop twang first 3 tunes
    author: Free Lance talent scout

Interesting dialog and background sounds throughout....creative.....first three numbers have forced western sounds in letter b, and saying ahh instead of I, which is not apparent in the rest of the cuts.....instumentation is a little monotonous from cut to cut and could benefit from key changes or solo licks.....additional instrument/s are needed, perhaps strings (guitar, harp, slide guitar, even chello)and/or keyboards such as organ..etc...slight changes could make CD appeal to broader market...it sometimes sounds like rough language is forced for effect and doesn't seem honest in places....Good first effort.
