notes
with my brand new olivia newton john record and my trusty shaUn cassidy guitar (1978 vintage hardy boys gear with plastic strings), i began to make my mark on the music scene at family barbie-Qs with a fantastic *chorus only* rendition of “like a rhinestone cowboy”...
many years, and an obscene number of songs entitled “the horsey in the field” later, i'm playing a guitar made of actual wood and my songs are no longer about furry woodland creatures...mostly...but if anyone has any information on how i can score a shaun cassidy decal for my baby taylor, please let me know...(or if you have his number you could send that too)

Beautiful
author: Mikey DA captivating CD by a truly beautiful artist. She's so full of life, and a pleasure to meet.
Ethereal
author: Daniel PopeI first saw Stephanie live as a support act for someone - totally accidentally, and have been hooked ever since. This album is beautifully put together, capturing the right elements of haunting lyrics and enchanting sound to make one of the most memorable CDs in my collection.
haunting....
author: gavinI have been brought into the strange world of Stephanie D through a st peppers sampler where she sang the most strange and haunting song I have heard in years....within without you by george harrison, I found it addictive and it out shone all the others on the sampler. I am now getting into the rest of her music and am seriously impressed.
A most perfect album.
author: JonathanThis is one beautiful album. Excellent music with strong emotion. A+
beautiful in every way
author: sarahgreat. soft and for a sunny day,... to dream away under the shades of trees.
Heartbreaking & Hearthealing
author: Erin PartridgeA friend gave me this cd during a time of intense struggle in my life, and I listened to it pretty much 24-7 for many many months. Then, my sweet younger cousin died (the 17 year old the reviewer named Wings referenced in another review). We played Song of the Maydoves at my cousin's memorial, and it was perfect. It spoke so beautifully to her spirit. And Stephanie's voice filled the chapel and was so healing to us all. This album is PERFECT. Honestly. I can't ever say enough about it.
Sounds interesting
author: Richard Astley-ClemasI've never heard the CD but it sounds like the kind of thing I could easily digest.I have though heard the singer as I collect Beatles cover versions and have the MOJO Pepper tribute where her version of the Harrison song stands out. She reminded me of Julee Cruise or Virginia Astley I gave it the full rating because it sounds interesting
i love her!
author: linda israelssoni just love her voice and i can't wait 'til her new album comes out! the songs are beautiful and pretty. and sometimes when songs are supposed to sound pretty they just end up sounding silly and fake-beatiful, but that's not the case here. i've been listening to this record constantly since i got it for a couple of days ago!

I am a fan of The Cocteau Twins, The Sundays and Tori Amos and this CD encapsulates the best of all of these artists. Living in the UK I had not heard of Stephanie until I obtained a sampler CD containing a couple of tracks by Stephanie, both of which I loved, so I had to find out more. It appears that this CD is unavailable in the UK, hence the purchase from CDBaby. Even allowing for shipping costs to the UK the CD was reasonably priced and I am deligthed with my purchase and can't wait for her next album. Many thanks to the staff at CDBaby as well - excellent service!
Stephanie completely rocks.
author: Don from CollegeThis cd is entrancing and addicting, with beautiful lyrics and more beautiful melodies. Buy this CD, and you will not regret it.
Fragile, beautiful and brilliant
author: Andy ParkinGorgeous voice, fragile and haunting. Great songs, too
multi-talented
author: Lisa McBStephanie is also a very talented choral conductor. Listening to her CD reminded me of hearing Stephanie sing in choir. She is incredibly talented and an amazing person. She is sure to have a very long and distinguished career. This album is wonderful to sit around and think about life to.
it is very powerful
author: wingsi just had a friend pass away and this song was played at her funeral. she was just 17 and i could feel speaking through this song. its beautiful

Sweet Surprise
author: AWatchfulMoonI purchased this cd on a whim after reading a cute item (which may or may not be true) in a magazine about a meeting between Stephanie Dosen and Renee Zellweger. My sole reason for purchasing the cd was to lend support to Ms. Dosen, I expected nothing, and figured if it sucked I'd only be out $10. The cd arrived within 4 days (thanks CD Baby!!!) and I listened to it immediately. What a sweet surprise! Ms. Dosen's melodies are beautiful, and her lyrics thoughtful. I listen to the cd at work and leave it on a continuous loop because I find her music soothing. I'm happy to say that Stephanie Dosen has joined Patty Griffin, Dar Williams, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Beth Hart, and Shawn Colvin as one of my favorite girl singers.
gorgeous!
author: WhitneyThis is just the music to listen to with the windows down on a cool night- each song sparkles in its quiet way. Stephanie's voice is perfect in each. A new favorite CD for me.
Amazing CD
author: M23I first heard the music through MySpace's featured artist link, and just fell in love with the music. I love the dreamy sound to it. Beautiful.
Wonderful recording...I love it.

"you are the music. while the music lasts" t.s.elliot
author: joaniethis cd at its worst is still brilliant. her cd is an almost unmistaken definition of beauty found within words that make up the lines to the songs that are sung by a voice you cannot help but fall in love with. at least thats my perspective on the cd from a little town in iowa that people sometimes refer to as a city.
This cd is beautiful...I love it.
author: StephanieI am so happy I discovered it and the more I listen to it, the more I like it. What a voice! And I love the way she sings the lyrics..there is such meaning, depth and poetry in her songs.

Hauntingly beautiful...... a very inspirational cd. If you like to create, this music will inspire you.
beautiful music, inspirational
author: AmandaStephanie's CD is pure magic. it's wonderful to listen to while i create, very inspiring. gorgeous!
beautiful, simple, elegant and magic
author: YaelThis CD is so pleasant to listen to, the melodies are so beautiful, and the voice a little forward, so we have the feeling the singer is just beside you. There are not too many instruments, just what is needed, that's why it's simple and elegant. The lyrics are wonderful, magic, like in an incredible fairy tail. Exactly what I was expecting. I'm very happy to have bought this CD.
music for the soul with honest lyrics and beautiful melody
author: rachellisten to the lyrics of the music on this cd and you might find a kindred spirit. tracks 1 and 3 are my favorite. definitely worth buying.
UK reviewer - I had to buy this CD and was thrilled
author: CathyI bought this CD after listening to the track BRAVE - I decided I had to listen to the rest. Stephanie Dosen's voice has a lovely, edgy quality that is distinctive and melodic; I especially liked the feel of the live recorded tracks. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys female voice and poetry as it has something to offer that is pleasing and provocative.
I play this cd all day for inspiration, sweetness and calm
author: TammyIt's a miracle if I ever remove this cd from my computer. The vocals are sweet with innocence but not "mousey" or "wimpy" in any way. The songs are intelligent and well written. There is a delicate side yet it's still a very bold album. I hear these songs in my sleep. LOVE THIS CD!

When I listen to this cd I find my self drifting off to the place that the lyrics were born. I feel so much energy, love and emotion. My three year old son also loves the cd we listen to it very often in the car and he asks " can we listen to Stephanie" He has been lulled to sleep many a time by Stephanie's calming and soulful set of lungs :) I would love to see a lullaby CD from Stephanie!!!
Awesome CD, highly recommend it!
author: jennifer wesleyThe CD is great, very fast service, can't wait to order again!
Wow! I love this beautiful CD!
author: phil from losers/weepers recordsIf you like the Cocteau Twins, the Cranberries, Ani Difranco...maybe some Lilith Fair action...YOU MUST HAVE THIS CD! This is a gorgeous piece of music: warm, sweet, melancholic, bouyed by Miss Dosen's wide ranging vibrato...stunning! Smart, delicate arrangements, gentle stumming and drumming, nice picking, catchy melodies, intelligent lyrics, brilliant back up vocals... ...buy this record and you will not be disappointed!
Awesome! I loved it!
author: Amanda RowleyThis CD is wonderful! I listen to it over and over and never get tired of it. Stephanie's voice is enchanting and intoxicating, and her music comes straight from the heart. Her sound is unique and unlike anything I've ever heard. I would definitely recommend this album for anyone, no matter what their music interest!
From the heart
author: JimiStephanie Dosen's music sounds like it comes straight from the heart. This is the most refreshing singer/songwriter I have heard in a while.
Beautiful
author: ElizabethI bought this CD based on the clips here and the mp3s on her site. It's even better than I expected. She writes lovely melodies and sings them with such emotion and sensitivity that it's hard not to feel what she's singing along with her. And "Blue Paper Lanterns" is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. If you like these clips, you will love the CD.
Imagination is a filter
author: RaffaellaWhat a delight! Stephanie's voice and melodies are dreamy but not escapistic. Full of imagination but not shut out of reality - just the contrary. Like the best works of art. Her kind of folk music reminds of Jewel, but Jewel's quality was always a bit uneven (not mentioning her last dreadful album, just talking about the old stuff), while Dosen's songs are all inspired and enjoyable. Keep up the good work! - Including the artwork of the CD and the site: lovely!
Wonderful!
author: Caroline WyrosdickI really felt inspired by her CD. Especially the song Brave. I think people need more delightfully magical music such as this...Thanks!
wraps you up in warm honey and gold light
author: GrantFiltered through the golden light of Ghosts, mice & vagabonds, Stephanie Dosen’s world is a beautiful one… and one she warmly invites us into. Not that everything is all puppy dogs and apple pie, as songs like “weak” relate - but all are real emotion sung with a really wonderful voice. The overall scope of the CD narrates experiences in such an enchantingly intimate and expressive way; it’s a reward of immersion in warm light!
Fabulous....you deserved the awards!
author: Diane ScheifeThe CD was very diversified...and creative. The lyrics were very profound. I have listened over and over, and still find it the most enjoyable CD I have listened to for quite a while. And the fact that Stephanie is a local girl from my home town makes it even better!
Soft sounds and totally enjoyable!
author: VickiStephanie Dosen has a true talent not only for writing some awesome songs but also to have such a lovely voice. All I can say about this CD is that it's simply wonderful.
Like the feeling of the whisper of a happy dream
author: januaryLike the feeling of the whisper of a happy dream you just had-- this cd is a melodic piece filled with soft pop beats and luscious vocals. In both audio and visual imagery, ghosts, mice & vagabonds has an innocent neo-hippie feel, and the lyrics are of a girl in love but determined to be ok without you. Listen to it with warm wind in hair, or lying down with eyes closed.
