notes
This is singer songwriter Dorothy Potter's freshman CD, recorded in 2000 and now re-released in 2007. Here she sings hard rocking R&B cover tunes in Spanish and English with a voice that commands attention. This CD is an important artifact in the history of Latin Rock in New York City.
The producer is legendary Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Papo Gely whose work at Sony and PolyGram and with stars like Ricky Martin, Cheyenne, Rubén Blades, Robby Rosas, Sophie and Antonio Cabán Vale has earned him a reputation as a flawless pop producer and go-to composer for some of the biggest names in Latin pop.
Gely is a talented and prolific songwriter, but many songs from his huge catalog are not widely available. Two of Gely's songs, La Escalera and La Mecánica del Amor, are available to a wider public only on this CD.
"La Mecánica del Amor" features Gely's inimitable electric guitar stylings, arrangements and production skills with the unique color and force of Dorothy's voice, about which Rick Rowe (former engineer of Jimmy Hendrix and Chief engineer of the project) said: "When she sings, you have to listen."
For more recent work by Dorothy Potter, please look up her CD "Just Before Rising" recorded in Cologne, Germany in 2007 with The GilmartinPotter Band, her most recent collaborative project. It is available for purchase at www.cdbaby.com/cd/gilmartinpotter.

refreshing and powerful!
author: Julia de la Cruz, fanWow. A powerful, eclectic mix from a powerful singer and masterful producer. I want to hear more from Dorothy....and soon!
Unique and high energy
author: Dr. Karl GluckThe original songs by Gely and the production values are impeccable. This has become my favorite listening record! It is so unusual to find a CD that demostrates a North American artist's real respect for and immersion in Latin music. So many have taken the easy way in these days of the Latin craze (David Byrne and, ironically, Cristina Aguilera as examples). This is an artist who has brought the best of her North America musical roots to the Latin genre. Congratulations, Dorothy!
Dorothy rocks! Great voice, great guitar, good good stuff!
author: Ashley Carlin FormentoYou rock! The CD is tremendous and we had it cranked up at dinner the other night - me and my sixth grade twins, dancing around the kitchen. They've pronounced your "Wayfarin' Stranger" a huge improvement on their school version...Great voice, great guitar, good good stuff!
