notes

The Doogie Hill Project plays in a variety of Jazz styles from Traditional Swing and Bebop (Montmartre, Softly as in a Morning Sunrise) to Funk (Inner City Blues) and Free Jazz (Subterranean).
We keep a close eye on the long tradition of Jazz music - that is, playing music from the past and also being creative TODAY with the sounds of our own experience. We like to mix the Standards, the "Not so Standards" and orginal music. Six of the songs on this CD are orginal tunes written Doug (Doogie) Hill and they represent this diversity of musical ideas.
The Musicians:
Doug Hill - all saxes. Doug has been on the music scene in Lancaster,Pa. for more than 20 years, performing in bands rangeing from Funk and Blues to Big Band and jazz "small group" settings .
Jim Zuercher - The best young drummer around - he swings hard and drives the fast stuff we do like nobody's business.
Nick Burcher - Nick was the busiest bass player in town until he left Lancaster for New York City. Listen to his solo on Subterranean and you'll know why!
Bob Fry - another busy bass player and I was lucky to get him when Nick moved on. Bob swings hard and really pops the Funk.
Tom Witmer - our special guest on guitar. Tom plays with his own trio and I just love his sound. He blends beautifully with the band and makes this CD something special.
(musician notes by Doug)

From an article on the band from The Fly Magazine: "The Doogie Hill Project...has been treating area jazzheads to an unorthodox blend of tunes...delivering a left of center interpretation with it's minamalist approach".
