notes
Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, currently residing in Brooklyn, New York, Dan Donnelly rose to prominence as the singer, multi-instrumentalist and chief songwriter for the acclaimed Belfast band WATERCRESS, and with them his songs “Candlemaker” and “Stars Shine On” both reached #1 in the Irish indie charts.
In 1998, after the bands demise, Dan relocated to New York with the intention of giving up music entirely.
But if its in you then it’s got to come out, so in 2001 Dan picked up his guitar and began the process of writing new material, as well as performing around the New York & Tri-State area.
As a regular on the New York scene Dan performed as a member of the Vertigo recording artists JoyZipper, and with them toured extensively in Europe and the USA, opening for such acts as Air and Turin Brakes, as well as playing his own shows, both solo and with his band SONOVAGUN.
He has been gaining a steady reputation as artist to watch, opening for such acts as Ian Dury & the Blockheads, The Levellers & Mercury prize nominees the Darkness, & Seth Lakeman , who he supported on two sell out album tours. There have been numerous festival appearances at Glastonbury, Beautiful Days, & the Big Session amongst others.
In the process he is the only musician who’s be asked to join, as a temporary member, the two finest folk-rock bands in the UK – The Levellers & The Oysterband
In early 2007 Dan completed his album “Yearning a Living”.
He is currently unsigned….
