Donna Smith's voice is warm and relaxed ... calls to mind Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and the young Nancy Wilson. Smoky, rich, with melodic grace, but also strong and masterful. On the spot manipulations of note valuations, changes of rhythmic emphasis, faint distortions of tone, and occasional light tints of color or shades added or subtracted vocally and musically.
