My kind of Freak is a philosopy it's a way of looking at life.
It's a tribute to all those folks who have embraced the characteristics of themselves that may, in some circles get them branded a "Freak". Embrace the Freakdom!
This cd has alot of joy. A good dose of introspection, peppered with a persistent addiction to the collective unconscience.
The Locals are a 4 headed musical monster. Goldie (violin), Buss (drums), Christy (bass) and Yvonne (vocals acoustic guitar). Each member has a distinct and unique background and relationship with music.
Influences of this group range from the Indigo Girls, to Jane's Addiction, to PJ Harvey to Clutch.
some reviews of the disc:
"Oh, this is alternative, and energized like the shock of seeing an old girl/boyfriend, like the sparks that click your hand when you reach for the cold, metal doorknob. " ben ohmart, musesmuse.com
"aGGressiVe folk-rock comes to mind. Like the mUsIcal cHiLd of Dave Matthews and Indigo Girls. Yvonne's lyrics are about strength and positivity... if there is one thing that sets this band apart from the crowd, it's the lyrics and voice of Yvonne Doll. . . . 'music for people who read the lyrics, but still want to wake the neighbors from time to time.' I'm thinking the neighbors might want to come on over and enJoY the tUnes..." -Cate Nolan, MetroMix.com

Awesome!
author: Cookie GirlThis album lives up to the great live shows the Locals put on... I think everyone agrees it's a perfect mesh between Dave Matthews and Ani DiFranco. The lyrics are truly inspired, and the music is a perfect match. This is one CD that *every* person should own at *least* one copy of... If you don't have it already, buy it *now*!
sound like a sort of cross between Ani DiFranco and the Dave Matthews Band. And
author: Persygrrl, Indiecator.comI made the mistake of reading the press after listening to this album a few times because I realized the exact thing I wanted to say about the band was the same conclusion everyone else has already came to. But here it is anyway, Yvonne Doll and the Locals sound like a sort of cross between Ani DiFranco and the Dave Matthews Band. And on their album, tey take this sound and make it absolutely stunning. The first track, 'Unglued', is a wonderfully catchy track that college radio should adore. The band is acoustic featuring a violinist, which is what makes the sound unique, by the way. On 'Winter Skin', the violin steals the spotlight from Yvonne's vocals here and there. The backing vocals on this tune make it particularly stand out from the rest. Another radio song, I do believe. The album as a whole is quite satifying, a perfect listen for those times when neither speed metal nor gregorian monks are appropriate.
