Good Music, A Joy To Listen To
author: Chris LindenmannGreat arranging job! A CD that will turn several times in your player. In short: good music played by great players!
Wonderful recording of masterful players in their element
author: Tony GairoAfter hearing the group, Joy of Sax, at IAJE, I HAD to buy his CD. I am very glad I did! Though a recording can never quite capture the presence and subtlety of a live performance, this recording comes very close and really captures the sheer beauty and mastery of this group and the spirit of their leader.
Great saxophone sound and new players to me to look out for
author: Ken PooleWith the legendary Frank Wess along side Jerry and a great saxophone section sound and some new players to look out for in the future, particularly Mike Le Donne and several compositions and arragements by Jerry a couple of Duke tune thrown in for good measure and one by Frank Wess makes this cd good listning
"The Joy of Sax"commands sustained joy and respect for its relaxed finesse coup
author: Dr.Herb Wong - Jazz Education JournalFine stuff! listenable, mellow, yet up to date
author: Sally WatsonThis music is interesting and modern but never jarring. A pleasure to listen to many times. You don't tire of it easily, since each time you listen there is something new to hear.
Just buy it. You can't do better. Very satisfying, up to date, & hip.
author: Murray HorwitzThis much-anticipated CD contains not only some of the great ensemble writing in contemporary jazz, but also some of the great playing. Jerry Dodgion must hate the word "underrated," but this is wonderfully pleasing music deserving of a much wider audience. It has integrity and depth of expression at the same time that it's enjoyable and accessible -- a delight.
