notes

I am a singer/songwriter and guitarist in New Jersey. I perform in restaurants and
coffeehouses throughout the southern New Jersey region.
The music I play is light classic rock and original contemporary folk music.
I cover many artists from the 70’s to today such as The Beatles, CSN, John Denver, Joni
Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Dan Fogelberg, Bob Seger, Carol King, James Taylor and Simon
and Garfunkel.
My main influences are John Denver and Joni Mitchell. I have been described as a cross
between these two.
Having played guitar since I was 14, this is one of the passions of my life.
Married, with two wonderful sons, my young son, Jon, began to collaborate with me at
age 16 while he was learning Bass guitar.
This resulted in our recording and performing together forming the duo
“Denise Miller and Son”. We released a cassette album, “Rat Bike” in 1997, about a rusty
old motorcycle that was well received in the press. On it, a song titled “O.J.”, about you –
know- who, protested Domestic Violence. We gave $1 from each cassette sale, $100.00,
to the “Coalition for Battered Women of New Jersey”- helping fight domestic abuse.
This got us “On the map”, so to speak, and a couple years later, in 2000, we released our
CD, “Crazy Horse”.
Reviews by the press were very good. “Miller’s voice is gentle and sweet, and the song
evokes the great outdoors in a Rocky Mountain High style. Folk fans will enjoy some of
the contemporary themes, such as the independence of a newly divorced woman in
“Living Out of Boxes”, with its simple but effective lyrics.” –Laura Albert, CD Review-
Atlantic City Press, At the Shore section, “Arts Beat” column- April 14,2000.
The song, “Living Out of Boxes” became a hit on college radio folk programs and earned
airplay in over 33 states, and several foreign countries receiving international attention. I
am very proud indeed!
The Cd “Crazy Horse is available on all Internet stores, and Itunes digital downloads.
“Denise Miller and Son” performed around New Jersey for a few years, and still do
occasionally. Jon is now on the “jersey shore circuit” with the cover band “Blasted”.
I am former President of the Acoustic Musicians Guild, a 501© non-profit organization
for the advancement of acoustic music and musicians. A networking group, we bring
together musicians and local music businesses and we perform at shows throughout the
state at libraries, Churches and fund raisers. We give our members guitar workshops,
performance opportunities and promotional opportunities to bring the music to the public.
I am a member of the “Songwriters Guild of America” and “The National Academy of
Recording Arts and Sciences”.
