david's story is one of tenacious faith and gentle passion. On July 4, 1996, doctors told david he had a malignant brain tumor and would be dead by Christmas. david left his corporate career and returned to his first love of songwriting and performing and set out to share the hope on which his life depended. Eight years, nine albums, 39 states and hundreds of concerts later, david and his music are alive and well.
The son of Presbyterian missionaries, david spent his childhood in Beirut, Lebanon. He learned his first chords from his seventh grade English teacher, then went on to study classical guitar. david soon began writing his own songs and first entered the studio at the age of 13. The Lebanese civil war forced him to complete high school in Germany where he spent his weekends as a street musician; during these years he also formed a small ensemble that toured throughout Central and Eastern Europe. In college, he played extensively in an original acoustic duo, but then put his guitar away and entered corporate America. Ten years later, following his diagnosis,he returned to the stage in what has become an amazing full-time calling.
david's songs are reminiscent of folk legends like James Taylor and Cat Stevens, though he also points to the work of Kahlil Gibran and J.S. Bach as being influential in his writing. Strong melodies and intricate finger picking set a perfect backdrop for his warm baritone as he delivers keen and witty insights about his favorite topics: time, faith, hope, love, and dreams. Hailed as a "prophet with a guitar, " david pens lyrics that resonate with surprising depth and clarity among audiences of all ages, keeping his music both universal and timeless.
His story has been featured on CBS News/48 Hours, 60 Minutes, Fox/Health, Family Health channel, and NPR; articles about him have appeared in newspapers and magazines across the country. He was a 2003 Kerrville NewFolk winner and his recordings have received many other songwriting awards. Yet it is alone with his audiences where david finds his greatest joy: from Beirut to Budapest, from Pittsburgh to Portland, and on hundreds of stages in between, he has inspired and entertained thousands of listeners. In churches, conference centers and coffeehouses, david challenges all of us to live passionately and to treasure the beauty of each new day.

    If you have not seen David in concert be sure and buy this DVD. It is the next best thing. Something you watch again and again and always see something new. Truly wonderful and inspirational.

    Scott has captured David in real life, on his journey spreading Hope to young and old alike. Having had one of the DVD's already, I just had to order two more. This is a great DVD to add to anyones collection. It tells a story. How David is inspired to write his songs. I love the scene in the middle of the night out side the Church, where he is talking about what he will do the next morning, and I love the song that follows in the Church. The fun the fellows had at the cabin, John playing his harmonica(s) the fellows dancing. All part of life. And the nail incident made me laugh. Everything was put together so well. I wish that in the future David would consider doing another DVD.

    This DVD gives us a glimpse into the life and music of david. What part did I like best??? All of it, but I have to say the mountain cabin and Summer Lane stand out...but then I liked the rain, the scenes with the flashlight and especially the reverse fade from black and white to color. The music alone was awesome.

    David M. Bailey has done it again, only this time in DVD format. With each song, you're not just seeing a mere performance - anyone can see that. With each song, he's giving us a glimpse of his life and philosophies. The bonus clips they add to the DVD are awesome, especially the clips about his transition from a businessman to folksinger. Although this CD was made independently, you couldn't tell. As I mentioned in the title, the quality and delivery of the DVD would make any major label blush. They WISH they could make a DVD as good as David M. Bailey has!

    Watching this dvd is like watching a home movie. It's great and fun to watch. The overall concept of going from black and white to color leaves you with the feeling that there is hope in everyones life. It is a great down to earth, relaxing and inspirational dvd to watch.     If you have ever seen Mr. Bailey perform, you have to get this!! If you've never seen him perform, you have to get this. I have seen David Bailey in concert twice, own each of his CDs. The DVD just adds to my collection. What a wondeful songwriter, musician, performer.

    The music is great, but I with that there were more about his life, his history, his philosophy, and his family. It is really all about his music.

    It is great and just so very very you. Loved the black and white, really loved that! It was all fun but some things that stick out - the whole Its OK segment - video is very cool - the rain and the video speed - just cool. Love the song title bit - laughing as I type. The suitcase full of harmonicas, wow. Really the whole cabin thing was fun. The dancing, the joy, the unshaven faces, guys in a cabin - it was fun. The many one more days put together was awesome.
