notes
david is well-known as a 12 survivor of a malignant brain tumor that was supposed to have killed him in 6 months. His amazing story of hope and survival has been shared with and inspired thousands of fans all over the world. If you are reading this here on CD baby, you are also learning that david is a prolific songwriter and keeps a relentless tour schedule across the nation and the world in support of his multiple CD’s. The more you get to know his music, the more you will learn of the many sides of david: survivor, yes, but also poet, philosopher, theologian, comedian, activist, husband, father, friend, and lover of all things coffee. This Presbyterian, passionate, fully reformed, liberally conservative peace-loving hippie-folksinger will wow you exotic guitar licks, but also inspire you with words you only wish you’d written yourself. Take the time to browse, listen, buy a couple CD;’s, visit his website, www.davidmbailey.com, and odds are before long, he’ll be in your area and you’ll be a fan of the music and the man. Thanks for stopping by – Keep on!!
Notes on tracks:
1. Maybe - this is a song I wrote early in the not by chance days. We used to sing it a lot, but never got around to recording it. The song opens with the musing that Maybe this world was meant to break your heart
goes through a bunch of possibilities then finally concludes that Maybe in the end, all we have is one another and that Maybe that's God's answer to the hearts that break in two... woven around one of m y favorite images of raindrops hearing lovesongs sungby the soil. Ok, that reads corny, but it sounds right, I promise.
2. Takes Two to See - I wasn't going to have a 'title' track; you actually probably wouldn't believe some of the really bad title ideas I was actually seriously considering until I realized how awful they were. This isn't your typical high energy title track, but it does capture the essence of what this project seems to be about. - i t also has some of my favorite guitarwork. First verse is about Sherlock and Watson. 2nd verse is about Mary and Martha. Third verse is about Jesus and the blind man. eclectic enough? :-)
3. Girl - Wrote this one in college and performed it every night with Bill Deasy in the "Bailey & Deasy duo. One of my most favorite songs, ever, and Donny's production is breathtaking. Imagine a love story unfolding in Paris, Venice, Vienna, and London. If you've been to any of those cities, you'll love this song.
4. Chico - This is the same song that ppears on the Silent Conversation album, but this version is recorded live with Scuffletown in a cabin in the mountains. It's how the song is meant to be heard.
5. To the World - this is actually the first song I wrote after diagnosis, written on the back of a dollar bill It first appeared on the "Second Chance" CD and has been in hibernation since '98. The opening line kinda says it all. "What is life if not a chance to make a difference? I'll be playing this one every night.
6. Holy Roads - maps out some famous Biblical roads to well known destinations. Starts with Bethlehem and ends with Damascus...
7. Soldiers & Sorrows. Classic country waltz-ballad. The first and only time you'll hear pedal steel on a bailey cd.
8. So Alive - a new year's day song; don't think my fngers can move any faster than they do on this one. It was a bear to record.
9. Backstage - started this back stage [duh] at a show in Oskaloosa, Iowa. I promised the audience taht night that one day it would be on a CD. Think New Orleans jazzz club...
10. Take Away - written and debuted last summer at the New Wilmington Missionary Conference
11. Do Not Be Afraid - huge. the surprise guest voices on this were Donny's idea. still give me chills.
12. Campfire Symphony - Really gentle and introspective and
13. What Love is About - Three stories that herald love's power
14. One Day - the dark horse of the album. Juxtapositions JFK, Columbine, 911, and one other day....
15. Carried by Your Love - I'm not sure, but I think I wrote this in 1983 while in boarding schoool in Germany. happy song. also recorded with Scuffletown in the cabin/studio
16. After the Encore - Think midnight... basement bar..most of the crowd has gone home... just a few folks lingering and there's one more song reserved just for them. passionate and tender.
peace - david

So many messages about loving, giving, caring, and listening...
author: John WarrenskiFind a quiet place with a cup of coffee and be ready to listen closely. This CD is loaded with messages about loving, caring, and reaching out to others, and listening to the one who really matters. I could say much about every track on this CD - but the only way can will be able to really appreciate it is if you experience it for yourself. The ending of One Day expresses exactly what it is - the greatest gift of all! Thanks david!

Another great CD--I have them all, and they just keep getting better. David, the soulful poet, can tell it like no other. Enjoyed the new rythyms on Soldiers & Sorrows (brought tears to my eyes), and Backstage. Will love your music forever.
Not to be missed
author: Peter KesslerSimply outstanding and right to the (sometimes) bitter point. One always finds hope and inspiration in David's work. Specially in this rendition. "Chapeau" - as the French say.
"Absolutely Awesome"

I know it sounds amazing but I just heard about David and his story so I bought his newest CD out of curiosity. What I find is a gentle, consistent voice of hope and life; someone who has learned to embrace each moment and to share this lesson with his words, his gifts and his passion. Thank you David!
Inspired vision, true to Scripture and a balm for the heart!
author: Keith BlankPay attention to the lyrics of It takes Two To See, and Holy Roads. God, (through David), is trying to tell us all something here and it is time to take the message to heart. God really does wake us up for a reason every morning. (besides that cup of coffee, David!)
Great! This CD will touch your heart.
author: Bruce PappasMy mother, also a cancer survivor, saw David in concert and fell in love with his music. Now she has me hooked. His voice is much like David Wilcox, but his music touches deep to the heart. Another great CD from David.
love it, my kind of music/lyrics
author: KarenAfter hearing/seeing David live and feeling so inspired,I was not disappointed at all with this CD. Brings me back to the mellow Cat Stevens era.
Another tears and joy CD
author: Barb"Do Not Be Afraid"--Again, David tells us to keep going on, one day at a time. The voice-overs bring a chill and tears. Has nothing changed? David is a kindred spirit! He speaks words that go beyond the day-to-day. Thanks, David!

The first time I heard this man four years ago, he took my breath away. Now several albums later, his songs push through even more deeply, breaking my heart, beckoning salty tears. Penetrating through to the soul of life in a stunning way, here is a man who knows what surviving and finding the beauty in life is all about. We often look to musicians to show us that; to frame this painful world in phrases and melodies we can grasp onto, understand and feel apart of. Maybe it helps us feel less powerless somehow. But having produced twelve albums since 1996 after doctors told him he'd be dead in 6 months from a tumor in his head, David has a rare insight into what life is made of and what it comes down to- so if we are to turn to any musician for framing our world with meaning, hope and a reason to keep going, he is an emissary for that. The first song, "Maybe" explores how "maybe this world was meant to break your heart," exploring many possibilities of what it all could mean and then finally concludes that "Maybe in the end, all we have is one another and maybe that's God's answer to the hearts that break in two." It's just like David to see the hope in the impossible and that's why this album, like all the rest, is one we fell in love with.
