notes

david is well-known as a 12 survivor of a malignant brain tumor that was supposed to have killed him in 6 months. His amazing story of hope and survival has been shared with and inspired thousands of fans all over the world. If you are reading this here on CD baby, you are also learning that david is a prolific songwriter and keeps a relentless tour schedule across the nation and the world in support of his multiple CD’s. The more you get to know his music, the more you will learn of the many sides of david: survivor, yes, but also poet, philosopher, theologian, comedian, activist, husband, father, friend, and lover of all things coffee. This Presbyterian, passionate, fully reformed, liberally conservative peace-loving hippie-folksinger will wow you exotic guitar licks, but also inspire you with words you only wish you’d written yourself. Take the time to browse, listen, buy a couple CD;’s, visit his website, www.davidmbailey.com, and odds are before long, he’ll be in your area and you’ll be a fan of the music and the man. Thanks for stopping by – Keep on!!

The son of Presbyterian missionaries, david spent his childhood in Beirut, Lebanon. He learned his first chords from his seventh grade English teacher, then went on to study classical guitar. david soon began writing his own songs and first entered the studio at the age of 13. The Lebanese civil war forced him to complete high school in Germany where he spent his weekends as a street musician; during these years he also formed a small ensemble that toured throughout Central and Eastern Europe. In college, he played extensively in an original acoustic duo, but then put his guitar away and entered corporate America. Ten years later, following his diagnosis,he returned to the stage in what has become an amazing full-time calling.
david's songs are reminiscent of folk legends like James Taylor and Cat Stevens, though he also points to the work of Kahlil Gibran and J.S. Bach as being influential in his writing. Strong melodies and intricate finger picking set a perfect backdrop for his warm baritone as he delivers keen and witty insights about his favorite topics: time, faith, hope, love, and dreams. Hailed as a "prophet with a guitar, " david pens lyrics that resonate with surprising depth and clarity among audiences of all ages, keeping his music both universal and timeless.
His story has been featured on CBS News/48 Hours, 60 Minutes, Fox/Health, Family Health channel, and NPR; articles about him have appeared in newspapers and magazines across the country. He was a 2003 Kerrville NewFolk winner and his recordings have received many other songwriting awards. Yet it is alone with his audiences where david finds his greatest joy: from Beirut to Budapest, from Pittsburgh to Portland, and on hundreds of stages in between, he has inspired and entertained thousands of listeners. In churches, conference centers and coffeehouses, david challenges all of us to live passionately and to treasure the beauty of each new day.

  • Inspired and Uplifting

I bought these cds for my dad, who's fighting the same battle as David. We all love both his music - so relaxed and laid back - and his lyrics. David writes from the heart and his honesty strikes a chord in all of our hearts.

  • Not enough stars to give.
    author: Margaret Moloney

David Bailey's songs came to me at crucial time in my life. This CD along with his Silent Conversation CD really spoke to the state of my heart when I needed it most. Particularly touching songs from this CD for me: Flip Side, Anyway, Anymore, It's OK, Nothing, Great Place. I'm glad that I came across this because "things" could have gone differently for me without this perspective at this particular time. The lyrics left me humbled, awestruck, peaceful and refreshed. His voice and music are the perfect delivery for the message. There are not enough stars to rate this CD. I appreciate this CD very much.

Coffee With The Angels is a long-lasting collection of songs from the heart -- the artist's heart, to be sure, but also God's heart. The words and music work together in every song. The thoughts expressed should resonate with anyone facing their own mortality, the loss of a loved one, and the bittersweet essence of Life. Be prepared to weep, smile, and love all the more!

I have several of Davis's CD's and love them all. I can't explain how touched I am by his music. Not to mention, an EXCELLENT song writer. When I am feeling low, I pop in one of the CD's, and I am reminded of what life is REALLY about. I dont know how many times I have listened to this CD already. It is in my car just playing over and over. I love the Christmas song and the girl who passed that is now playing on the rainbow between blue and yellow. Excellent song writing. David is truly an asset to society making major contributions.

  • I have several of your CD's. This is my favorite.
    author: Bette Damron

I grew up in the 60's so anything that resembles folk music is high on my list. My 28 year old son died suddenly in his sleep last month. He was a musician (acoustic and bass guitar), and before I even know he was gone, the song Good to Have a Friend kept running through my mind, so I had it played as a tribute and message to his many friends that had gathered for the prayer service at the funeral home. Thank you David for your songs from the heart---I'll be at your April Rocky River concert. Would love to hear it in person.

Saw David M. Baily in concert in Topeka, Kansas and picked up both his Live and Coffee with Angels CDs. Just had to share them with others and found Coffee with Angels as a good way to introduce him to friends and family (X-mas gifts). His music is so personal, fun and just great music!

  • A real gem - I hear the angels!

It's great music in many ways. Wonderful, healing lyrics, yet stirring and pleasing at the same time. And the songs all have a meaning - what a happy contrast to today's pop song culture. Tucson stands out.

My mom was very pleased with the CD. Of course she is David Bailey's number one fan! Anyway, she loved it, especially the Tucson song, because that is where she grew up and my sisters and I were born. Great CD. Keep up the good work!

  • Nothing better than a cup of coffee in the early morning
    author: AG

I get the impression that David enjoys coffee. Imagine coffee with the Angels. The first morning I had the CD's I sat on the sofa with my fiance drinking coffee and just listened to this music. It was a wonderful day...no rush, no hurry, no deadlines to meet...just the simple pleasure of reflecting on life.

  • david bailey's new cd Coffee
    author: Ed Mori

This is the 1st time I have heard david with a full band for an entire cd & it rocks. He mixes up the styles well & the words. What can I say about the words except they are fantastic. To david, the words matter and that comes through on each song.

  • Giving Up On Nothing!
    author: Matthew Fullerton

david's music takes much more of a spiritual influence than his past cd's. Always rich with the influence of talented "back-up artists," amongst the 18 songs on coffee…, he is accompanied by 8 back-up vocalists, 4 guitar players, and 3 bass players, even a bagpiper! With all of these performers, some of david's intricate string work seems to get lost. For some this will be a reasonable trade-off, compensated by the rich influence of the accompanying artists. A diverse artist, bailey hams it up in his witty Java Junkie--an anthem to his / society's obsession with coffee. Even tea toddlers will enjoy this comical chord. And you will absolutely flip over the bagpipes in Great Peace. Inside the Rain, aptly titled will bring tears to your eyes. Don't scramble to your liner notes, the wonderful back-up singer on Anyway, may sound like Aretha Franklin, but trust me it is not. Unlike earlier cd's, there is no preaching to doctors to be found, which makes coffee... more mainstreamed for the general listener who will enjoy the wisdom to be found in the gentle reminders bailey's music provides. A few examples: "A Moment is Forever, If You Choose To Carry On;" "Keep On Walking, We're Only Here For a Short While;" "Giving Up On Nothing;" "God Can Use You Anyway;" "Everybody Needs a Second Chance;" "It's Good to Have a Friend; & "Great Peace." bailey's message is certain to the touch the listener's soul, much like talking with an old friend-a friend with a rich, weathered, baritone spirit. This cd will not gather much dust in your collection. Hallelujah!

  • A fantastic collection of new spiritual and fun songs!
    author: Terry Lederer

This CD is truly awesome and my favorite of David's to date! I love the range of styles. Coffee With The Angels is inspiring and uplifting (in true Bailey fashion), and you'll find yourself smiling, singing along and tapping your toes to these new wonderful, spiritual songs. A must have for any music collection!

  • His best yet!
    author: John McAllistor

WOW! david's albums just keep getting better! His newest release (#7) is truly a masterpiece, delivering 18 killer tunes that go from folk to gospel to pop to grunge. His use of 2 producers really gives the collection depth and breadth and definite freshness -- old and new fans will be delighted -- I was! Way to go david!
