At age 23, Dave joined Tower of Power, replacing original organist, Chester Thompson. He toured with the group for two years in the mid-80's. Since then Dave has been organist-pianst with Grammy Award winning queen of Rhythm & Blues, Etta James.
Extensive U.S. and World touring including concert appearances at the Montreux Jazz Fest, North Sea Jazz Fest, Benson and Hedges Blues Festivals, Playboy Jazz Fest, Monterey Jazz Fest, Lincoln Center, Newport Jazz Fest, Hollywood Bowl and many others.
Ever eclectic, Mathews exercises his talent for Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music through an 18-year association with Pete and Sheila Escovedo.
Also a lover of American piano styles, from ragtime, stride, blues, boogie woogie, gospel to Bebop, he has performed as accompanist for multifaceted singer Maria Muldaur four ten years.
David is also a jazz organist, leading his own organ trio in frequent San Francisco Bay Area appearances using sideman from Jimmy Smith's and Jack McDuff's organ groups.

Blues and Jazz at its best!!!
author: Stephan PetersenDave Mathews belongs to those musicians who deserve far more attention. Dave's first album "Down With It!" presents Dave as a B-3 master you don't want to miss. "Down With It!" is a superb journey between blues and jazz and highly recommended.
