notes

Music was always her first love but back then she didn't know it was possible to make a living out of being a singer and DJ. No doubt she is the most wanted and most popular artist in Latvia (Lettonie) of the new generation following David Guetta and Bob Sinclair’s steps. At the local scene there are no any other like she. Sexy, smart and professional at the same time! She has a hard working attitude and the right sense of style. Ella is a sought after model for the fashion and lifestyle magazines in her homeland, a small island of new hopes in the dark ocean of so-called Eastern Europe.

Ella’s career started when she was 14 when she got to the final of international young performers competition “ Fizz Superstar” where she was the youngest entrant to perform. The first one, who noticed that she was someone to watch out for, was the legendary UK producer and manager Mel Bush (Vanessa Mae, David Essex, Wild and many more). He offered her a career in the UK and that was the time when he was working on his new project lately known as Bond. But as Ella was just 14 years old and a young lady, she easily reject his offer telling his professional industry - wait a minute, I’ll make it on my own…

And now it is happening. Step by step she goes her own way to reach success. When she was only 16 she has wrote her first song, recorded it and sent it to the record company. She got signed on by the local major record company Microphone Records. In 2006 the debut album “To reach your dream” was released. She wrote most of the songs herself. At the same time she participated in local “Fame academy” and again, got to the super final.

In 2007 she got an offer from the most popular radio program in Latvia - “Radio SWH” and started her own programme as resident DJ. At the same time she started to do her DJ sets at the most prestigious Riga dance club “ Essential” and get working on her second album to be released early 2008 on Microphone Records, local EMI Licensee.

Several mixes & remixes of her forthcoming album tracks already appear on many DJ playlists now across the whole Baltic. Ella’s success story is rising and seems to break more and more borders. Not many of the Latvian artists have ever been released abroad and played on international radio, but Ella is one of these few. Her first single “Welcome to the club” got airplay in more than 12 European and Asian countries, also being released in South Korea.

The new album songs have been written by famous writers from US, UK and Belgium. Others include US writers Michael Jay (Kylie Minogue, Eminem, Celine Dion, Lara Fabian etc) and Gordon Pogoda (Tik Tak, HI-5, Pop Idol, etc) who says:

“I was very impressed with Ella's recordings. Ella sings with confidence and sass and has a great style. I may live on the other side of the planet from Ella but I know she's a very hard worker and very determined to do all it takes to make it in this business and achieve international success. She brings a lot of fun to my song and sings with an excitement and energy that really goes well with a dance club anthem like this.“

Ella adds: “ I know that I should work hard to get the success. I’ve never thought that it is an easy way. But I do not know anything that would stop me on my way. I know I’ve made some mistakes, but I do not care about what’s in the past. I live today and think of tomorrow. I know there is people who hates me, but there is always much more who loves me. The most important is that there are no indifferent ones.

Trance Furry Radio review:
"If you are looking for buoyant, uplifting pop/dance, look no further than DJ Ella’s newest single, "DJ Take Me." It is quite an infectious tune that gets stuck in your head. Coincidence? Not likely. Her producers include Michael Jay who have worked with Kylie Minogue to Celine Dion as well as Gordon Pogoda (Tik Tak, HI-5, Pop Idol, etc). The song can be dismissed as not very creative, but definitely is worth seeking out.DJ Ella hails from Latvia, where at the age of 14, got her first shot reaching the final of this International young performers competition "Fizz Superstar" where she was the youngest entrant to perform. At age 16, she wrote her first song, recorded it and sent it to Microphone Records. Then soon thereafter, in 2006, her debut album "To Reach Your Dream" was released. At the same time she participated in Latvia’s "Fame Academy" and again, got to the super final. Not many Latvian artists have been released abroad and played on international radio, but DJ Ella is one of these few. Her first single "Welcome to the Club" got airplay in more than 12 European and Asian countries. Most recently, DJ Ella has been working at the most popular radio station in Latvia; "Radio SWH" and started her own program as resident DJ. At the same time she started to do her DJ sets at the most prestigious Riga dance club "Essential" and has been working on her second album to be released in early 2008 on Microphone Records. From the well produced sound of "DJ Take Me," Trance Fury Radio believes it is quite possible for DJ Ella to expand out of the Baltic Region and conquer the world. It might take a bit more creativity to separate herself from the competition, but we definitely believe in her!

Originality: 2.5 out of 5 starsThe musicality and chord progressions contained within "DJ Take Me" are not very original, though they do work well together. Very simplistic drum pattern throughout the song, not too many fills to differentiate song structure.

Production: 4.0 out of 5 starsProduction quality on this track is top notch. Levels are well balanced and the vocals sit nicely in the mix. The bassline seems a little lonely all by itself. I am personally a fan of layered basslines, though in this track that may take away from the vocal performance given by DJ Ella. Not too activity much going on in all frequencies, just a bassline and vocals for the verses and occasionally adding some strings into the chorus to harmonize the vocal lines. The isolation of the frequencies lends to the crispness and clarity of the recording.

Vocal Performance: 5.0 out of 5 starsDJ Ella has a really powerful yet sultry sounding voice in "DJ Take Me", even bordering on soulful at points. The chorus has a nice uplifting feel. The backing vocals harmonize well with the main melody. The simulated choir in the breakdown is a nice touch.

Lyrical content: 3.0 out of 5 starsAgain, this is not going to be anything profound as it is fit for late night clubbing. The lyrics fit the general good vibes that this song brings about as one listens.

Marketability: 4.0 out of 5 starsWhile not original, this track certainly would be right at home in most pop dance charts across the world. DJ Ella’s sound and looks definitely have that pop/dance sensibility around her, both necessary traits for surviving in the music business these days. Look for this track on a compilation and in a club near you.
