Disasterpeace's first official release is a journey into the past, inspired by the music and soundtracks that accompany 8-bit video games of the 80's; Atebite and the Warring Nations is a tale narrated only by the sounds of our childhood.

notes

"In an age that is not our own, a young boy lives a life of peace amongst his brethren in quaint Neutral Town. Little does he know that tragedy has already struck as he sleeps. Many important decisions lie ahead, and a young boy will become a man in the process. Beyond the gates of his humble life exist two mighty civilizations flying under opposing flags. They are dueling for the ultimate power: the means to emplace the order that they so choose. Atebite will have to make a decision. Will he choose Plaid, or Argyle? Which will you choose? Press Start."

Disasterpeace (Rich Vreeland) is an American musician and composer originally from the Staten Island section of New York City. He draws heavily from the influences of his favorite musicians and composers, the audio aesthetic of retro video game soundchips, and his studies to create instrumental music that varies in scope, structure, tonality, meter, timbre and theme.

Rich currently studies Music Synthesis at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.

  • Completely Opened My Eyes!

How do i describe how amazing this album really is? I'll start by saying that beneath it's chip-tune exterior lies one of the most brilliantly composed progressive rock albums ever written. But I'll also note that if this album where to be played out with standard instruments, it would loose it's magic. The most amazing thing about this album is the creative aspect, It's like a choose you own adventure book, but it uses the infinite format of your imagination rather than words. Everyone who ever spent time in front of a Nintendo as a child will remember that feeling of being absorbed in a whole other world, even though it was just a 2d platform game! This music conjures images of an 8-bit adventure in your mind, such a simple format to imagine. This is a must for anyone who ever played video games as a child, you will be enveloped in nostalgia, leaving you to joyfully reminisce about the days when your imagination ruled your world.

There are no words for this album. Its beyond anything ever done. I feel like he is making fun of music by using chiptune. The transitions between ideas are the tightest i've ever heard in music. ever.

  • The Greatest Innovator in Music
    author: HardQuor

Truly, one of the great pioneers in 8-bit music. Chiptunes can really go places with artists like Disasterpeace at the forefront. This is music on par with and even better than what some might describe as "real" music, but to me, this is as real as anything else out there. possibly even more so. Never stop what you're doing Rich, and we'll never stop giving you our money and adoration.

  • this is what videogame music sounds like from the inside

Not merely electronic values, but a passionate and resonant real-life soundtrack. Too often reviewers use the word LISTENABLE to describe an overly accessible version of a style or genre; but this CD is extraordinarily listenable because it's so GOOD, and I could listen to it forever.

  • Brilliant Musical Narrative
    author: Soruja

To tell a story with words can be an uphill battle at times. Being a writer myself, I know the struggle all too well. If my own conflicts of narrative can be seen as a duel between two able combatants, writer and language, then Disasterpeace's "Atebite and the Warring Nations" could only be described as an epic battle across a flaming countryside, each warrior clad in shimmering armor and holding swords of gold, on horses of white they ride to their destiny unleashing vicious cries of valor as dragons sail overhead breathing hellfire and damnation. To tell a story with music...that is a TRUE feat of genius. To let the floating melodies and pounding rythms paint a picture of adventure and struggle, there lies the power to inspire the masses and move the mountains. "Atebite" achieves this as no other peice of music has. It will engulf the Earth in rapture, crushing injustice and evil and its wake.
