Dewey Brown was introduced to bluegrass music at an early age. Born in Alamance County, NC to Flonnie and Dewey Brown. Learning the basics of flddling from Scott Greason. When he met J. B. Prince his fiddling skills advanced. His time with J. B. taught him the basics of Traditional fiddling. He also studied with two other great teachers Bob Bowling and Young Sheffield.
After several years of local fiddle competitions he entered the Galax Fiddlers Convention in 1999. At the age of 17 and a senior in high school won first place. Following year he joined the band BlueRidge for the next two and a half years. He had the opportunity to fill in with David Parmley & Continental Divide, The Bluegrass Cardinals, and the late Charlie Waller & the Country Gentlemen. The summer of 2002, he began to work for Honi Deaton and Dream. He was apart of the groups first project. In this time he filled in for IIIrd Tyme Out and others. While playing bluegrass music Dewey earned an Associates Degree in Business, and Marketing-Retailing.
Bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley called Dewey the summer of 2005 to play fiddle and sing. After a year with Ralph, Dewey recorded and produced a solo project for himself “Traditional Fiddle”in 2006 and just released his second Album “Hard Times for a Fiddler” that has 9 original songs which include Dr Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mt. Boys and guest Del McCoury. Dewey’s singing is featured more on this second release. Since with Ralph Dewey has recorded with Porter Wagner, Alabama, Bill Gather, The Cumberland High Landers, And many solo artists.
Dewey's fiddling heroes are J.B. Prince, Kenny Baker, Bobby Hicks, Chubby Wise, Curly Ray Cline, Benny Martin, Joe Green, Howdy Forester, Mike Hartgrove, Bryan Berline, Glen Duncan, Stuart Duncan, Aubrey Haynie, and a few others.

Old Time Fiddlin
author: ChrisBought this to play at my mom's 70th b-day. Her father was a member of the old time fiddlers in Orofino, Idaho. What great memories are on this cd. Listening to Faded Love was like bringing back grandpa to her party. The cd was the hit of her party. Thanks for keeping this traditional music alive & well.
This is Kickin' Bluegrass
author: Connor B.This is kickass bluegrass fiddle, hands down. After seeing Mr. Brown play with Ralph Stanley, the wife and I knew we had to have some Dewey Brown in our collection. If his riffs on Orange Blossom Special don't light your fire, then you aren't into bluegrass fiddle! This disk is priceless and we're ready for the next one. ;-)
The simplicity of Dewey Brown's playing is wonderful.
author: Nikki ClevengerI am thrilled with this CD because of Dewey's fiddling style. A good traditional sound, but pleasingly simplified. There's a few hot licks, but there's big, solid, juicy licks that a beginning fiddler, such as myself, can listen to and figure out. I should have bought two of these CD's, as I'm sure I'm going to wear just one out. I highly recommend this album.
This CD is AWESOME!!! If you like traditional bluegrass music, I mean real old t
author: Leslie VandykeThis CD is full of excitment and great bluegrass music. Dr.Ralph joins Dewey and I love the chemistry between them, it would about remind you of the chemistry he had with Curly Ray Cline! He also has a great chemistry with all of the Clinch Mountain boys with makes the music so sweet! This is a very talented young man and his music makes me want to dance!
