    This is the kind of music that you long for when listening to the radio(and grimacing) There are clearly lots of influences that led to this album: punk, rock, latin, even some big band and swing beats. But the best thing is that Collen "Devil Doll" Duffy knows who she is as a singer, and that is what makes this album so $#%@ing fantastic. You can hear these other influences coming through, but it is never forced, it flows naturally...this album embodies a woman who I've never met but if she as interesting and seductive as her music is she's a great conversationalist.

    If Quentin Tarantino owned a biker bar, Devil Doll would be playing every night. And the bikers would be afraid of her. This album is punk, it's retro, it's rockabilly; heck, on Driven to Distraction, I thought the English Beat were playing back-up. Great singing, great songs -- an awesome album. Multiply those 5 stars by 2, at least.

    I found Devil Doll by accident while browsing CD Baby for a different CD...I was intrigued and listened to some of the sample songs...then ordered the CD, got it quick and listened not expecting that the whole CD would live up to the few samples I heard online..Man was I wrong! I laughed, I smiled, I ROCKED! H*LL, my 68 yr old mother and my 10 yr old niece also rocked out while we listened to it together. No lie about being transported to the Rockin' World of a Classic Pin Up Styled, Strong Woman, who is at the same time unearthly in her feminine vocals and amazingly on point in the telling journey her songs take you on. You're definitely only a passenger on that ride, but trust me, you won't be sorry you took it and you'll crave more of those sultry yet rockin' tunes the more you hear them! ENJOY!!!

    from the beginning to the end of the cd i was captivated....there wasnt a moment when this cd lagged at all...its been in constant rotation in my cd player...you can actually feel the anger and the sexyness at the same time as it oozes out of the speakers and pours over you in waves....with her painful lyrics and her voice that sounds like the thing youve been missing your whole life.....if you dont have this cd now....youll have it in the future....

    P.S. Check out the Atomic Fireballs. A swing band that hails florida. They will give you that same blast as Devil Doll. Their show is top of the line and the two could jam perfectly together. But they don't have the D-D voice ofcourse.

    Thanks to a night of broken hearts and bad livers, I've found one of my new favorite cds. During Ms Tex's rockabilly night at the Olive Pit, I was introduced to Devil Doll's Queen of Pain album. I bought the cd and love every song. The music, with Devil Doll's sultry voice, makes it the kind of cd you can always listen to. I especially enjoy track 4- King of Brooklyn and track 10-Bourbon in your eyes (my favorite song on the album). Devil Doll is sassy, sexy and plays bass-you've got to check her out. The mix of genres that are coelesced into the final product will appeal to most anyone that has a genuine love and appreciation of music. Her vocal range and clarity is fantastic, with unquestionably the most heart-felt and sultry feel in music today.     I would recommend this cd to any jazz fans or jazz fusion fans, it is a really strong album. It is a nice solid package, lots of songs = you get your moneys worth, and do not worry about the other tracks that aren't availible for you too hear, they are just as strong as the ones availible. Great stuff! If like other fusion bands such as Morphine or even jazz greats as Billy Holiday this is really worth checking out.

    This is a CD that has both a modern and retro feel to it. The songs are great and the style is distinctive. Devil Doll has a great voice and can express many different emotions with it. There's a touch of sadness but it's usually mixed with a feeling that she's not really beaten at all. There's sex, humor, and true emotion throughout.

    This is an amazing CD. Easily one of the best CDs I own (and I own a lot). It combines elements of rock, punk, rockabilly, jazz, swing, big band, latin and country. Like I said. It's diverse. Every song on the album is truly amazing in it's own way but my favorites are "St. Christopher", "Heart Sized Crush", "King of Brooklyn", "16 Days" (my very fave), "Things You Make Me Do", "Bourbon in Your Eyes", "Liquor Store" and "Queen of Pain". Yeah, it's a lot but it's really hard to choose! See for yourself and buy the album.

    I found Devil Doll by doing a "Rockabilly" music search in MySpace.com. It proved to be worth my time. I listened to the three samples they had and immediately went to their website afterwards.     So my friend wants to get Queen of Pain but can't find it in the UK. So she drags her web-savvier friend in and I get it from CD-BABY. It wasn't for me, but I couldn't resist playing it when it arrived. Loved it. There are some great songs with various influences, but the best thing about it is Colleen's voice. Fabulous. Great. Incredible. Pick a word. So my friend still wanted her CD and I had to hand it over. Now I've gotta order another copy from CD-BABY. I dunno. The things I do for friends!

    What an incredible voice! So powerful, so…honest. You come away with the feeling that Colleen’s not hiding anything from you. She’s got great style – this cd is so much fun to listen to. And I love how many tracks there are – you just don’t see cd’s with 18 full-length tracks anymore. (Not to mention that she’s an incredibly beautiful woman – I want her wardrobe!) I feel like I’m being spoiled! This is luxurious, sexy music, my friends. This is the kind of music that you sip a martini to, and slowly suck the olives off of the toothpick, eyes gazing intently at the person across the room – um, I mean, table. It’s angry when it needs to be, but always sultry, always beautiful. It’s so great to hear actual music, instead of the computer-generated stuff that fills up the airwaves these days. This incredible music reminds me of some of the greatest: Patsy Cline, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday. Soothing, sexy, exciting. Everything you could ever want in a cd. I can’t get enough of it – it’s so deliciously fabulous! If you’ve been looking for soul, you’ll find it wrapped up in Devil Doll’s music.

    I purchased this cd on speculation, after hearing only one track, Faith In Love. And I am thrilled that I did. The blend of musical genre is amazing. Each track is filled with a mix of sultry, sexual lyrics. If this cd doesn't get your blood pumping, then you don't have a pulse. BUY IT. You will be missing out if you don't experience this one.

    Quite frankly one of the best CDs I've heard in 2002, and even more impressive as a freshman release. King of Brooklyn, Faith In Love, and Driven to Distraction are standout tracks for me, notable in that they also represent the extremes in musical styles that make up this diverse CD. The band is incredibly tight and Colleen's vocals keep it all grounded, whether they're pounding out Swing, Rockabilly, or even Ska and a touch of Trip-Hop. Consider me a new disciple.

    As everyone else says, this is a great album!!! DD (Colleen) is a terrific vocalist combining some of the sultriness of '40's-early '60's 'classic pop,' rockabilly, & rock with a spicing of punk & Latin. At times she sounds like Joan Jett singing with the Brian Setzer Orch., other times like Wanda Jackson, or sassy rockified Peggy Lee w. a touch of Patsy Cline in there too. & "If I Died in Your Arms" is almost like a cross between acoustic Maria McKee and c1960 Nina Simone. Fine stuFF.

    I bought this CD on the advice of a friend, and I find I cannot quit playing it. Every time I listen to it, I find another favorite. The versatility of Colleen is amazing, from the speakeasy-siren crooning of Queen of Pain to the mournful and haunting techno of Faith In Love...then she'll throw you for a loop with Why?, a C&W classic that sounds like Patsy Cline herself would have recorded it. I found that I had to stop playing the CD at work because I couldn't get anything done. It puts you in a trance at times. If you are sick of all the formula, cliche-ridden garbage that is flooding the record stores these days, buy this CD; it will be the best $14 you have spent in a long time.

    I just happened upon Devil Doll on the CD Baby site, and, what a find! I'm a huge Tom Waits fan with a love of punk rock and alt-country and this album just hits the spot. She shifts through many musical styles, all the while gloomy and sultry, with tongue often in cheek. Like Gillian Welch, she seems like she's from another time, but her music could only be made today. Treat yourself to this fun, varied and very satisfying album.
