Lisa Deveaux has crafted a sophisticated style of contemporary, pop jazz that reflects as much depth and flavor as her rich ethnic heritage-a mix of African American, Creole, Native American and Czech ancestry. Her brand of music blends Brazilian, Smooth, and R&B sounds that capture jazz's versatility. Deveaux's deep passion for her music makes the release of her debut CD, 'Shakin' That Jazz' one of the most gratifying moments of her career. Singing background with Phyllis Hyman (her mentor) and Barry White, taught Deveaux about the commitment and discipline necessary to sustain in the business. She describes the album as a "smooth and mellow reflection of romantic love with a sultry approach, reminscent of Sade and Natalie Cole." The title track, "Shakin' That Jazz," which Deveaux wrote, is a sassy rendition that pays homage to several great legends of jazz. "Lazy Monday Afternoon," which she also wrote, represents her unique musical style infused with Latin and island undertones. Also featured on the CD is "So Far Away," a Carole King hit which Deveaux sings in memory of her father. A native of Chicago, she attended Florida A&M University and Herbert Burghoff Studios in NY, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in entertainment management and musical theater from Columbia College in Chicago.

Jazz and the Caribbean fuse together in a most melodious way through vocalist Lisa Deveaux, on her CD entitled, Shakin' That Jazz. From the first notes in "Lazy Monday Afternoon" to the last in "By Design" (a duet with Carl Anderson), you get a feeling of cozy, comfortable days and smooth relaxing nights. Ms. Deveaux's silky voice entices you to sit back and enjoy a glass of lemondade and a summer breeze. Her remake of "Wanna Be Where You Are" is exceptionally delightful and "So Far Away", a song dedicated to her deceased father, warms your heart. For those of us with a more mature appreciation for Jazz, I highly recommend this CD!

This quality bright jazzy soul album would have Robbie Vincent waxin' lyrical. Lisa sounds like a slightly jazzier version of Teena Marie. Right from the start of the breezy 'Lazy Monday Afternoon' the quality oozes and is maintained across all eleven tracks. The dancer 'Lets Have It All', the jazz funk title track, cover of Leon Ware's 'Wanna Be Where You Are' and George Duke style brazilian tinged jazz funker 'You Are The One' are all highlights. Best of all is the two stepper 'Second Nature' reminding me in places of Joanna Gardner's classic 'Pick Up The Pieces'. Quality album throughout.

I may have found my new favorite female jazz vocalist
author: Derek - Jersey City, NJI was looking for a venue to enjoy some smooth jazz while visiting the LA area and stumbled across the music of Lisa Deveaux. I felt like I landed in music heaven when I read the reviews and listened to samples of the tracks on her website. My favorite female and male jazz vocalist were Phyllis Hyman and Carl Anderson respectively. Knowing that they were both influences in Lisa's music gave me added incentive to purchase her CD immediately. I may have also found my newest favorite female jazz vocalist. Can't wait to get my copies. Please let me know when Ms. Deveaux performs in the New York/New Jersey area. Lisa Deveaux's Star is surely Shining!!
Brings Me Out In Smiles
author: Mac DaddyI love Lisa Deveaux and I've only just discovered her quite by accident on CD baby via Mp3tunes. This is an excellent first album as it reeks of quality, passion, determination, whilst seducing you with her sweet vocals. The opening track Lazy Monday Afternoon sets the pace and what an opener of a track, a latin tinged delight. I can hear traces of the late Phyliss Hyman here and there in her phrasing and voice so he's learnt well. This album isn't just a few good tracks with the rest as fillers no as I said earlier every track is excellent. It's hard to pick my favourite tracks but it has to be Lazy Monday Afternoon and I love the interplay between her and the solo violin, love it, love it love it. Is this jazz ala Dianne Reeves, Cassandra Wilson, no it's via Anita baker, Regina Belle et al, contemporary jazz soul, that will stand out on Smooth Jazz radio as quality always shines amongst the dross. I must shake Robert Townsends' hand should I ever meet him (highly unlikely) as he was the catalyst in helping Lisa get her butt in gear and putting this album out, thank you Robert. I'd love to see her in concert as I am sure she's sounds even better live, so Lisa if you are ever get the chance give the UK a visit, as I know we'd love you. If not then I might have to come and see you in LA sometime soon.
Connoisseur's Soul Heaven!
author: Philip WardIn a World swamped with too much Rubbish & Bland music (Or it's abbreviated name - R&B)it's a real treat to hear absolute soul heaven! for the connoisseur! The CD starts off in a nice soulful latino style in the shape of "LAZY MONDAY AFTERNOON". "LET'S HAVE IT ALL" (a cover version of a tune originally done by Duke Jones on his "Thunder Island" CD) is a superb uptempo soul groover. The title track is just as awesome with a wicked groove that would sound superb in the more specialist clubs and bars. "WANNA BE WHERE YOU ARE" is a great version of the Leon Ware classic. "SO FAR AWAY" is a lush ballad. "FIRST TIME", "SECOND NATURE", "YOU ARE THE ONE" and "SPECIAL MY LOVE" deserve equal credit with this sentence!... Excellent Connoisseur's Soul Heaven! But you don't need me to tell you just how wonderful this CD truly is. Just click on the blue (LISTEN NOW) bar to find out for yourself. Or do the most sensible thing and just buy it blind. I can't wait for her next release. This is an absolute treasure!
